Gangland leader “Whitey” Bulger had 20 guns when captured - where did he get them?
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/world/2011/0624/1224299524362.html

<snip>

DesLauriers said agents found a “variety of guns” and a “substantial amount of cash” in the apartment. He said it appeared that Bulger and Greig had been living there “for a long time”. Other sources confirmed that some 20 guns were found along with “hundreds of thousands” in cash.

Guns and cash. Like old times for Whitey, it seems . . . right up to capture.

Only in NRA Amerika

yup

1. "where did he get them?"
Wouldn't surprise me if it was via the ATF.

2. Imagine that, a gangster with guns
Why I'll wager that a strict background check would have prevented that!

Lends credence to "when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns" though doesn't it.

3. You are joking right?
These guys have no problems getting guns in UK and Europe, the only difference is that they tend to use sub-machine guns there more than here.

Why would the Second be any different in that regard?

Being a convicted felon in possession has been a federal crime since congress passed the Federal Firearms Act of 1938. The Gun Control Act of 1968 made it a mandatory minimum five year sentence. If he was never convicted of anything before, do you have a problem with due process?

Now, do you have a valid point?

16. ...a valid point?
Some folks just don't know which end is up and couldn't tell the difference between an AK-47 and AC-47. ;)

12. Hmmm, guess we should make "being a felon in possesion" double super illegal.
It's bound to work, amirite?

5. Whitey Bolger belonged to the NRA? Who knew?
Did they find his membership card in with all that cash? Maybe a donation receipt?

Or is this just another silly, pointless post?

7. Hmmm... a multiple choice question.
A) Did they find his membership card in with all that cash?

B) Maybe a donation receipt?

C) Or is this just another silly, pointless post?

That's a tough one, but I'm gonna have to go with C.

Did I win anything?

14. Congratulations! You are correct sir!
The full answer is to claim anything even vaguely to do with firearms is all part of a very successful NRA/GOP plot. That's why it's the fault of the NRA that a gangster had guns.

Next week, the Al Capone NRA membership story.

9. "Only in NRA Amerika" Because in Mexico, no criminals EVER have guns!
Oh wait--in Mexico, where firearms are effectively banned from civilian ownership, 20 guns would be only a small cartel operations house.

18. Except, of course, that they don't.
Only an estimated 17% of guns recovered by the Mexican police are traced back to the US. Not to mention the fact that if the US weren't here, the guns would come from someplace else. Trying to make US gun laws to blame for Mexico's problems is simply moving the goal posts.

19. But we have...
...laws against that happening, as does Mexico. Don't tell me that those dastardly criminals have resorted to...dit.dit.dah...BREAKING THE LAW?

:sarcasm:

And your justification for making another law that will also be broken but only by the criminals would be????

And not one of those Guns-defend-you-your-kids-your-home super heroes ID'd him?

13. It's been a long time since I bought a gun, but I don't recall that they came with
'10 Most Wanted' trading cards, or magic lassos, or anything. Why would a gun help anyone recognize Mr. Bulger?

Bulger was involved in organized crime since before the GCA of 1968 - probably before you were born - and you're asking where he got his guns?

Who is:

Thomas Baxter.

21. 20 guns? Amatuer.
I suppose by your commentary on this one (which is unusual in there being one) that he was an NRA member and probably had a concealed carry license.

Unrec for your normal NRA/GOP stupidity.
