It could be nothing, but I wonder... Melson is going to take the brunt of this, but there are others who probably need to take responsibility.

Traver is set to replace Kenneth E. Melson as head of the Justice Department's bureau of Alcohol, Traffic, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which supervises illegal weapons traffic and explosives use, as well as acts of arson, bombing and terrorism; violent criminals; and criminal organization. Melson is the ATF's deputy director.

Current Position: Director-Designate, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Justice Department (since November 2010)

Career History: Special Agent in Charge, ATF Chicago Field Division; Assistant Special Agent in Charge, ATF San Francisco Field Division (2001-2004); Special Agent in Charge, ATF New Orleans Field Division (2000-2001); Criminal Investigator, ATF Office of Inspection (1998-2000); Group Supervisor, ATF Philadelphia Field Division (1993-98)

1. It looks so far, as if he - melson - is not willing to resign.

If he has to be fired, he may well roll.

2. There's no particular reason why Traver would have had to have been in the know
Chicago's a long way from the Mexican border, after all. And even if Traver had picked up something, he wouldn't have been formally responsible for any of it, any more than any other ATF agent not directly involved.

3. I wasn't sure if he was still in Chicago or if he had already moved to DC

...and gotten caught up in the tail end of Fast and Furious.

Even if Melson resigns, we're in the thick of it with Traver.
