7. Either way, Holder has a problem.
The ATF is his agency. He either approved this operation, or his minions did. If he knew about it, he has to admit he is complicit. If he didn't know about it, he has to admit he is incompetent.

In the most benign circumstance, this was an ill-conceived operation intent on garnering the ATF headlines and relevancy in Congressional budget battles. The vilest, and most cynical, scenario would be that the motive was to "pump up" seized Mexican gun figures to "justify" a push for the Holder's oft-stated goal of a reinstated and expanded Federal assault weapons ban.

This is the sleaziest weapons deal since Ollie North and Southern Air Transport were air-dropping guns to the Sandinistas. All that military hardware the Zetas and the rest of the Mexican cartels are eagerly bringing in from El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua to add real punch to their arsenals!

2. Well, at least it only took six months for the US media to decide
that the US Government selling guns to Mexican drug cartels was news worthy.

:sarcasm:

3. It's hard to scam people into supporting a ban on black rifles using the 90%
of crime guns in Mexico are from the US lie after this story came out.

9. Hey, it took time for Watergate to break open as well
Admittedly, if Wikipedia had dumped a stack of documents in July 1972 outlining Nixon's involvement, one might have expected things to go a little faster...

4. IIRC Holder was one of the more outspoken on the "Mexican crime guns are from the US""
Didn't he make a speech or two calling for a renewed and toughened AWB? Using the Mexican guns being confiscate and the phony 90% number as his rationale? Did he also call for the "report more than 2 long gun sales at a time" requirement too?

How convenient that, even though the bureau reported to him and he was all involved in the tracking of all those crime guns from gun shops and gun shows along the border, as far as the media was concerned, he had no idea any of this was going on.

No agenda at work here, just sloppy paperwork, I'm sure.

I liked the "removal" of the redaction as well.

12. It is important to note
Without American deaths and "The New Media" this would have been buried pretty quick .
Two bloggers scooped the entirety of the MSM by months .
