Louisville man charged in shooting of boy, 12, who rang his doorbell and ran
Edited on Tue Jun-14-11 07:14 PM by RamboLiberal
A 56-year-old Louisville man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a 12-year-old boy who was ringing doorbells and running away in the Glenmary area of southeastern Jefferson County Monday night.

Michael Bishop, of the 8000 block of Hall Farm Drive, was charged with attempted murder.

-----

Witnesses told police that a group of children had been playing a game in which they would run up to a home, ring the doorbell or knock and then run away.

According to his arrest citation, witnesses said Bishop came out onto his porch with a shotgun and pointed it in the direction of the children and then fired, striking the victim.

"I think there were some other kids who had been ringing his doorbell before he got mad, came out and didn't even warn the kids," added Jim Natsis.

A witness told police that a man emerged from Bishop's front door, stood on the porch, racked the shotgun and then fired.

"The kids started scattering," Natsis said, "ran into the houses and told the parents."

"Oh gosh, probably had 200 (pellet wounds)," McDowell recalled, "looked like he took 75 percent of the blast. And his head was bleeding to where they had to hold towels on it. It wasn't good. Just make you sick."

2. This shooting would be legal in Texas.
you can kill people simply for being on your property.

"SUBCHAPTER D. PROTECTION OF PROPERTY

§9.41. Protection of one's own property.

(a) A person in lawful possession of land or tangible, movable property is justified in using force against another when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to prevent or terminate the other's trespass on the land or unlawful interference with the property."

8. I was thinking the same thing but under the "criminal mischief" law during the
hours of darkness. There is a whole different set of laws on the books in Texas with regard to the legal use of deadly force "during the hours of darkness".

5. That's a situation that calls for booby-traps not gun-fire.
Or where you camp out on the side of your house with water-balloons and surprise the "sneaky" kids as they flee...

You have to choose the appropriate weapon for the given situation.
