Tinley Man Proves Beer and Guns Don't Mix
http://tinleypark.patch.com/articles/tinley-man-proves-beer-and-guns-dont-mix

A man who police said accidentally fired his sidearm last week after tipping back a few cold ones in his apartment was charged with reckless conduct.

Tinley Park police were called around 1:20 p.m. May 26 to an apartment complex in the 7300 block of Sandalwood Drive, after getting a report that a gunshot was heard there. When they arrived, they spoke to Charles A. Graham, 62, who said he "accidentally fired a round from his revolver out his sliding glass door," the report said.

He showed police the gun—a .45 caliber revolver—and they opened the cylinder to find one spent Winchester birdshot, they said.

Graham told police he was sitting in his recliner, watching TV and cleaning the weapon when he accidentally discharged it. But police said they noticed a strong odor of alcohol on the man's breath.

2. Always unload your gun before cleaning it...a friend of mine shot his wife that way.
And he wasn't even drinking....

9. Uh, if he was cleaning it when it happened, why was the spent shell
still in the chamber when the police showed up?

10. Unloading is the forst step in cleaning.
I assume the spent shell was still in the cylinder because he realized the garvity of the situation and put the weapon down. But then, you can assume the worst.

12. IOW, he was not cleaning it. If the gun somehow mysteriously discharged
before the first step - unloading - and then he put it down he was, at the very best, PREPARING to clean it. Unless, of course, he was starting to clean it while ignoring the first step.

So, is he a drunk fool or a moron?

13. Guys, I wasn't talking about the story in the OP.
jpak responded to somebody else who was telling a story about how his friend shot his wife while cleaning a gun with "he was playing with it."

4. People and guns don't mix.
Make no mistake, despite the denials of the gun people, it's guns that kill people.

5. Using that logic....
....cars kill a hell of a lot of people as well. I guess cars and people don't mix either. Nor knives, nor pretty much anything else....

15. I've got 10 of 'em around the house.
None of them have killed anyone. Are they merely trying to lull me into a false sense of security?

16. "It's guns that kill people." But never knives, or poisons, or SUV's, or
broken glass, or gas leaks, or blocked arteries, or old age?

It's guns. Only guns. Every gun.

Gotcha.
