Tough gun control fail: Newark's murder rate up 71% from last year
Newark Mayor Cory Booker's tough gun control is working out really well this year. Murder rate up 71% from this time last year. Those gun laws are working about as well as nigeria's total gun ban. Or jamaica's or Haiti's.

http://gothamist.com/2011/04/26/newarks_2011_murder_rate_71_higher.php

I wonder if their solution is going to be more gun control. Duhh let's just keep hitting the thumb with the hammer to see if it stops hurting eventually.

5. My list?
lower wealth inequality
stop pissing money away on empire
proper funding of schools
national/non profit health care
teachers and welders are role models instead of overpaid clowns playing a kid's game
free school K-PhD
end bullshit drug war that is lining the pockets of the private prison industry, organized crime and other parasites

New Jersey has stricter gun laws than parts of Europe. If gun laws had anything to do with it, why no machine gun murders in Canada before 1977 when they were less regulated than hand guns? Why does Norway and Switzerland each have murder rates half of Japan's?

27. The only dodge is by you. You asked for and were given a list, yet you choose to ignore it
and respond to me instead, effectively dodging the answer to the question you asked.

So thanks for proving me right, you did NOT respond to the poster that answered your question, just as predicted.

8. They disarmed law abiding citizens through oppression of the right to keep
and bear arms and also reduced law enforcement coverage. They should issue shall issue ccw for free, provide firearm training for free and offer easy access to subcompact pistols to individuals who qualify. And put the citizen armament on the news.

7. There's always an excuse, fact is they have tough gun laws and an embarrassing
increase in crime. If tough gun control worked they should have been able to cut down the police force without an increase in crime.

Ignorance is what the anti gun side runs off, it's all you have

13. I'll take that as a "no, I didn't read the article"
Crime did go down. Then they laid off some police and it went back up (whether it went all the way back up is not clear).

This is all from the article you posted. Your OWN EVIDENCE says the opposite of what you claim.

Sorry, but you've been caught twisting facts here. I guess you weren't able to find an article to back your argument, so you just tack on a title that suits your agenda.

Embarrassing, really.

24. Except I posted the real data and it shows that the least violent nations have a 3 times higher gun
Possession rate than the most violent nations

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=118&topic_id=407157&mesg_id=407157

Remember this thread comparing the most violent vs least violent nations? You posted there hoping the thread would be locked. Remember? I showed you the data and you still are posting an untruth here.

25. Tiny problem in your smug little "yup"
They already HAVE strict gun control. Meaning that the only people who have guns are the cops (who are apparently not a super efficient crime fighting team) and the criminals. You know, the ones who don't pay attention to the law anyway-they like to do things like steal other people's shit, beat people up, and don't forget the occasional rape and murder, too.

28. Well, let's keep it in perspective
We're talking about comparing a five-month period in one year with a five-month period in another; this is not the stuff from which long-term trends can be discerned. It's also the kind of measurement in which minor absolute variations can produce massive relative variations (the way some rural counties can experience a 100% increase in the rape rate because there were two instead of one this year).

It does. however, illustrate that the stringency of gun laws does little to slow an increase in crime resulting from other factors; in this case, a reduction in the number of cops on the beat.
