Grandmother grabs gun to thwart burglary suspects
Wednesday’s incident began when Linda Lowery’s daughter returned home after taking her children to school and noticed a white SUV parked at the house she is selling. After calling the sheriff’s office, she went next door to the home she currently lives in with her mother. She entered her mother’s room and told her about the incident so she wouldn’t be alarmed when hearing the patrol car sirens.

“Linda jumped up, grabbed her gun and went over there,” family friend Debra Van Allen said. “She had the gun in her pocket and let them know. She held them until the cops got there.”

Van Allen stressed that Lowery didn’t actually point the gun at them. According to the incident report, after looking out the window and seeing the crime taking place herself, Lowery armed herself and went out to confront the burglars. The daughter also accompanied her.

...

“If they’re planning on robbing me or her, they better think again,” Van Allen said. “We’re just sick of the crime and we’re not putting up with it.”

I'm not sure if it was the wisest thing to do to confront them, as the LE had already been called. But it's interesting to see how the balance of power can shift to the victim's advantage just by the knowledge of a firearm being present. No violence necessary (in this situation), but the gun sure helped.

1. Yayyyyy granny!
But I am on the fence about this. The cops had already been called. I probably would not have engaged in armed confrontation in this case.

A digital camera and parking a car to block in the SUV would have probably been just as effective.
