An electronic billboard touting “Guns Save Lives,” bought by a Bellevue organization, will be seen by thousands of New Yorkers and visitors in Times Square this month.

Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), as well as executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, both of Bellevue, wouldn’t say how much CCRKBA paid for the Times Square billboard, but said he envisions the electronic sign will be seen by “hundreds of thousands” of New York residents and tourists this month.

1. The murder rate in New York is among the lowest among big cities
having more guns in New York is not likely to make that number better.

6. Can someone explain to me how guns save lives again?
If you take every gun on the planet away there will be less death. Guns were made to fire a very fast moving metal projectile into living things to cause harm. How does that save lives?

7. By giving people a means to defend themselves...
..from those who would do them harm. One that is far more effective than any other means ever devised. There was PLENTY of death before guns, so your assertion that taking all the guns away would result in less death is completely false.

8. I assume you plan to wave your magic wand ...
and make them all go away.

A firearm can save a life when an individual uses one for legitimate self defense to stop an attack by a person who intends to inflict serious injury or death. Often no shots are fired but lives are saved.

9. Some people make value judgments
They find themselves subjected to an unprovoked and violent criminal attack. By being exceedingly selfish and unwilling suffer the attack they might use guns to defend themselves. How gauche for them to find their lives more valuable than that of their assailant.

So you are correct, there is no net saving of life. The violent criminal should have exclusive province in determining who lives or dies by his victim selection process. Victims should just suck it up, for if they kill the predatory criminal they just ruin it for all his other potential victims.
