Teacher Charged With Having Gun On Campus

A Johnston County teacher’s assistant has been charged with having a gun on campus on the first day of school.

Fredrick F. Foreman, 24, of Smithfield worked at the new McGee’s Middle School. He also drove a bus.

The gun was in Mr. Foreman’s car, Johnston County Sheriff’s Capt. Dale Wheeler said.

"Somebody walked by the vehicle, saw the handgun in between the seats, the front seats, and they reported to the SRO, School Resource Officer," Capt. Wheeler said.

The SRO, Wayne McLendon, was contacted at West Johnston High School where he works. Deputy McLendon spoke with Mr. Foreman and charged him with possession of a firearm on school grounds.

Capt. Wheeler said while the charges are serious, “it’s a felony in North Carolina to poses a firearm on school grounds,” Mr. Foreman did not behave in a threatening manner. “It was not like he was out there showing it around,” he said. Mr. Foreman was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

2. So?
As the article clearly stated, “it’s a felony in North Carolina to poses a firearm on school grounds”.

Do the crime, do the time............

3. Maybe the law should be changed
Make it a misdemeanor, at best.

4. Threat
There was danger. The car, in summer with the windows up gets hot. Please refer to Gun in Oven thread. If the car got hot enough, it could have shot someone. Killer car, only thing missing from the headline would be

"SUV kills student with random gun shot"

The car was probobly under 18. Violation

In posession of a weapon with out a background check. Violation

Straw purchase?

What a bad car.

5. No he behaved like an imbecile
Leaving an weapon in full view in a car park does not constitute a threat to the security of those in the school?

What if someone had decided to steal it?
