CBS: ‘Documents point to ATF gun running since 2008’
“A controversial operation in which U.S. agents were allegedly ordered not to intervene as American guns flowed to Mexican gangs may have been going on for many years,” Sharyl Attkisson of CBS News reports.

Multiple sources now tell CBS News the questionable tactics were used in more than one operation, and date back as far as 2008 in the Tucson area. One case was called "Wide Receiver."

In my opinion, the may be the down fall of the ATF.

1. And the down fall of gun control!
With no one to enforce gun control, everyone can buy any gun they want. Then we will be safe.

3. Try again. Even the NRA supports many gun control laws.
This is just more evidence the ATF needs a thorough housecleaning.

4. Ah, ok. They support the laws, just not the enforcement.

10. Nonsense. Give me some quotes (here's mine):
"The fate of the Mexican gunrunning rule is only the most recent example of how the gun lobby has consistently outmaneuvered and hemmed in ATF, using political muscle to intimidate lawmakers and erect barriers to tougher gun laws. Over nearly four decades, the NRA has wielded remarkable influence over Congress, persuading lawmakers to curb ATF's budget and mission and to call agency officials to account at oversight hearings. The source of the NRA's power is its focus on one issue and its ability to get pro-gun candidates elected."

Intimidation? Erecting barriers to tougher gun laws? Oh yeah, the NRA idiot posse is all about enforcement. :eyes:

11. And yet the crime rate went down over all that time the NRA was supposedly "ruining" the country.
I know you'll never admit it, but maybe the NRA was right and all those calling for tougher gun laws wrong.

In that case, it wasn't the NRA that had an "idiot posse"...

8. I read the link- and the WaPo article it linked to. The NRA didn't actually do anything
The ATF tried to keep what it was doing secret, as it was obvious to anyone with a brain that their ostensible plan could have been

easily circumvented by smurfing (i.e. sending different people into gun shops to buy one weapon at a time).

Did they not think anyone would notice?

9. So gun control laws for civilians would have prevented these federal agents from
breaking the law?

Explain that logic please.
