NY state proposes long gun registration
This is not for NYC, this is state wide registration and annual taxation of all long guns. Politicians don't want to confiscate our firearms they only want to tax them to extinction.

http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/other/outdoors/article353161.ece

"If Senate Bill 2994, which Sen. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn) has sponsored, becomes law in New York State, owners of all long guns will have to register every such weapon.

Along with an annual registration, Adams’ bill would impose a fee of $15 per gun and an annual renewal fee of $10 for each gun a state resident owns. The bill also would require that all firearms acquired in the future be registered with information on where and how the gun was obtained. "

2. I never understood that one either.
When I lived in NJ, no registration required for personal(non-powered) watercraft.

In PA... I have to register my inflateable kayak... The problem is, when it is deflated the registration stickers fall off.

6. Are canoes and kayaks in the Bill of Rights?
A tax qualifies as an infringement.

BTW no fees on my canoe in NY.

16. I'm not 100% for unlicensed conceal carry, however in the states that enact it,
budget constraints are the problem and it is one of the solutions that they look at to remove a redundancy or overspending.

Is Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn) going to make a felon out of every gun owner who wishes to remain anonymous?

Another urban politician who doesn't have a clue.

Even in the United States, registration has been used to outlaw and confiscate firearms. In New York City, a registration system enacted in 1967 for long guns, was used in the early 1990s to confiscate lawfully owned semiautomatic rifles and shotguns. The New York City Council banned firearms that had been classified by the city as "assault weapons." This was done despite the testimony of Police Commissioner Lee Brown that no registered "assault weapon" had been used in a violent crime in the city. The 2,340 New Yorkers who had registered their firearms were notified that these firearms had to be surrendered, rendered inoperable, or taken out of the city.

Every once in a while those who deride the "slippery slope" betray their true intentions.

"The goal is an ultimate ban on all guns, but we also have to take step at a time and go for limited access first."--- Joyner Sims, Florida State Health Dept., Deputy Commissioner, Chicago Tribune, November 7, 1993

"My own view on gun control is simple. I hate guns and I cannot imagine why anyone would want to own one. If I had my way, all guns would be banned."--- Deborah Prothrow-Stith, Dean of the Harvard School of Public Health

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

After listening to gun control proponents lie for 60 years I am disinclined to start believing the lying bastards now! The goal of registration is too obvious.

10. Are long guns suddenly a problem in New York State?
I know money is.

This looks like a program to raise tax revenue with the side advantage of allowing gun confiscation in the future.

18. Gun crime does not justify this action - rifles are used VERY rarely in crime.
Edited on Tue Mar-01-11 10:04 AM by OneTenthofOnePercent
It makes no sense to primarily target rifles. I hope the people firmly reject this attempt at gun control and retalliate by passing MORE pro-rights legislation (shall issue concealed carry with statewide preemption). Show 'em some of our own gun-love... hit 'em back where it hurts (by shoving pro-gun legislation down their throats).

19. I hope it serves as a wake up call to all the hunters and target shooters.
I own four lever action rifles, $40/year plus another $20/year for my shotguns. Completly insane concept. NY is becoming a nanny state.
