Goodyear police told a crowd of about 100 people attending a community forum on school safety Thursday that the student not only brought the gun to school on Feb. 14 but also Feb. 11.
Other students knew the ninth-grade boy had the gun on campus Feb. 11, but did not report him because they said there was "no ammunition in the gun," said Jason Costello, Millennium school resource officer and Goodyear police officer. A student did tell administrators about the gun around noon on Feb. 14.
"Within 10 minutes of that, the gun was secure," Costello said
