Officer Tackles Man With Gun On TSU Campus (Nashville)
http://www.newschannel5.com/story/14040571/officer-tackles-man-with-gun-on-tsu-campus

A scuffle with an armed suspect on campus sent a Tennessee State University police officer to the hospital late Tuesday night.

TSU police said 21-year-old Stephen Sheppard he made his way into the Kean Hill Campus Center late Tuesday night with a gun.

"He was walking and there was something under his shirt, everybody said he had a gun. They thought he was joking. and then pulled it out and people started running," said TSU Student Honey Simmons.

But one of those people called police. Police tried to stop him when he became violent. Lt. Phillip Beene had to wrestle Sheppard to the ground.

14. Law enforcement was quite armed when they took care of him.
Once again, a person with a gun stops violence.

16. Didn't use it. Just like the old folks who stopped Loughner. You don't always need a gun.

19. You're right.
Didn't use it. Just like the old folks who stopped Loughner. You don't always need a gun.

You're right - he didn't use it. He just carried one in case he needs it.

You don't always need a gun. But when you need one, you need it desperately.

Police carry firearms because they find them to be the most effective portable tool available to safeguard their lives. If it's good enough for the police, it's good enough for civilians.

20. It's a good option to have.
If you're in close and you can try to go hands-on it can work. I've done it a couple of times in the line of duty but I had a guy standing there with a .45 in case it went badly.

I wouldn't expect a private citizen to even attempt that. I'm glad to hear you're a willing volunteer.

21. But having that option -- having a bunch of folks packing in public -- isn't good for society.

An old lady did it, and an older man quickly joined in in Tuscon.

Plus, these things don't happen very often.

22. I don't understand your logic.
Mass shootings don't happen very often, but somehow lawfully armed citizens are bad for society? Please fill me in.

You don't make any sense at all.

10. So the designation only works AFTER the fact? Well, I sure am reassured by that
little factoid. And I'm sure it's very satisfying to the families of those killed by the guy in that other Gun Free Zone. You just made me all warm and fuzzy. Thanks a lot.

12. Shows once again that criminals don't obey laws or rules.
"Officers caught him about a block away. He allegedly told the arresting policeman he was a member of the "Dodge City Crips" street gang and told the officer he would put a hit out on him.

Police said the gun he was carrying was stolen.

Sheppard has been arrested before on charges of theft, robbery and driving on a revoked license. He's now in the Davidson County Jail on a $100,000 bond"

So, we have a gang member with an extensive prior criminal record carrying a stolen gun, and we should be surprised that he didn't obey the laws and rules making TSU a "gun free zone"?

And, once again, it took someone with a gun to stop him.

And that most situations resolve themselves without some cowboy drawing his gun.

And this is exactly what it is like for people who carry firearms. Imagine that!
