Sioux County Flooded With Weapon Permit Applicants (Iowa)
(ORANGE CITY, IA) There's a run on weapon permits in Iowa.

Changes to state law have had people lining up to ensure their right to carry, and in Sioux County they simply can't keep up.

On January 1st, Iowa became a "shall issue" weapon permit state.

"With the new weapon permit law, we knew things were going to change, we didn't know exactly how it would go," says Dan Altena, Sheriff of Sioux County, where business has been booming.

In January the office issued 101 permits, 80 of those were for concealed weapons.

"A year ago there were about 50% less, there were 40 permits to carry concealed, and a total of about 50 total of them so it's pretty much double," says Altena.

The Sheriff's staff just couldn't keep up, so they're scaling back. Starting next week, the permits will only be issued from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

1. Wait, 101, of which 80 were for concealed weapons.
So, you need a permit to own any weapon? Sounds fishy to me.

Also, love the "we will only serve you when you are at work and cannot get here" rules. Almost like they don't want to follow the law, so they "bureaucrat" their way out it, no?

3. Iowans need a permit in order to acquire a handgun
They can buy as many as they want, but have to buy a permit for the "privilege" of doing so.

Permit is good for one year.

5. What qualifies you to determine someone else's "needs"?
Why should a free person submit to YOU for a needs test?
