Off-duty cop shot gun out of crook's hand to thwart robbery
The fearless and well-groomed cop who faced down an armed robber in a Brooklyn beauty parlor managed to shoot the pistol right out of the crook's hands, cops said Monday.

And in a scene that would be over the top even for the most unbelievable Hollywood cop movie, one of her bullets hit the front door - and locked it.

"Her reserve under fire was matched only by her marksmanship," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said as he praised Officer Feris Jones at a police-only briefing Monday morning, according to NYPD spokesman Paul Browne.

As police offered dramatic new details about Saturday's salon shoot-out, the suspected gunman's mom told the Daily News she was shocked her son was in the middle of it.

For all those I see on DU and in newspapers and talk radio who ask why can't the cop shoot the bad guy in the arm or leg.

Actually in a shooting it's not a surprise the gun hand is hit since that is where the eyes will tend to focus, on the weapon.

1. Still safer to aim center-mass.
If I ever had to shoot someone (god forbid) I would aim for the trunk.

5. I agree
She was probably aiming center mass - the gun happened to be in that target area. My point was just that if so the eye naturally is drawn to the weapon.

2. Then again, maybe it was a lucky/unlucky shot depending on...
how you look at it.
I'm a natural cynic.

6. Shooting the held weapon is quite common.
Folks tend to shoot where they are looking. The weapon tend to grab their attention initially. It just takes a little more training/practice to correct the aim back to Center of Mass.
