2. You've got it
Apparently that was not enough of an issue for them to stick to their guns, so to speak.

"Requiring the FBI to destroy gun purchase documents in 24 hours."

since it is only ok'd buyers and not denials being destroyed and the "atf field agents"(FFL holder) keeps the original forms.

Other things in that "package though...really pissed me off.

On edit:

I like the gun provision, but I definitely would have been happier if the whole package had not passed. There was a time in my younger days when 75 hours in a week was the norm. I lived off my overtime. While it may or not apply to me-an unmarried male, it will apply to a whole lot of familys who will now have to look for additional/other means of income. That really sucks.

4. They put the issue into its proper perspective unlike Sarah Brady

Who said today:

"The Senate voted today to destroy background check records..."

Source: http://www.bradycampaign.org/press/release.php?release=539

when in fact that is exactly what current law requires.

From Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(t):

(2) If receipt of a firearm would not violate subsection (g) or
(n) or State law, the system shall -
(A) assign a unique identification number to the transfer;
(B) provide the licensee with the number; and
(C) destroy all records of the system with respect to the call
(other than the identifying number and the date the number was
assigned) and all records of the system relating to the person or
the transfer.

5. Typical Brady Bunch misinformation
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 10:46 PM by alwynsw
Which reminds me; what ever happened over her strawman purchase of that 30.06 for her son? I saw it as legit, but Delaware's law reads otherwise.

Once again, it's another case of anti-RKBA zealots demonstrating that the laws should apply to everyone but them.

6. Is this true?
In doing a search, I have found several references to the gun in question as a scoped 30.06. I can't seem to find any solid confirmation, except pro-gun sites. Is that not what some police and swat teams use as a sniper rifle?

So if its true, she bought what some gun control groups define as a sniper rifle?

I knew she was a zealot, but if it IS true, that would make her an elitist hypocrite as well.

7. IMHO it was a stunt
In an incredible coincidence that little factoiid came out with the release of her book and her book promotion tour. How about that?

She admitted buying a "Scoped hunting rifle" for her son to hunt deer with "last year".

It was her way of saying: "look I don't hate all guns, just all of the the guns you little people have".

The Brady?VPC crew currently reserve the title "Sniper Rifle" for the .50 Barrett's so far. If they ever succeed in banning tham I'm sure the .308 and 30.06 and anything with more than a 1.5X scope will be next in line for the Sniper Rifle title..

"Elitist hypocrite" is the right title. She wears the badge proudly along with Rosie O'Donnell and every other anti RKBA who has bodyguards on retainer or hires armed seurity for their special events and appearances.

8. You got that right
"The Brady?VPC crew currently reserve the title "Sniper Rifle" for the .50 Barrett's so far. If they ever succeed in banning tham I'm sure the .308 and 30.06 and anything with more than a 1.5X scope will be next in line for the Sniper Rifle title"-DonP

Your sort of right. No, your absolutely right. The Barrett is the only one they usually mention by name. The make a reference though to smaller guns in this little nugget from the bottom of a VPC page. Its one of thier preachpieces with suggestions at the bottom, entitled "One Shot, One Kill". This was one of thier suggestions.

"Bring heavy and intermediate sniper rifles under the control of the National Firearms Act."

http://www.vpc.org/studies/sniper.htm

I wonder what exactly they mean by "intermediate". I wonder if they mean something like ...say...I know - a 30.06!!

I wonder how Sara Brady would feel about her son haveing an NFA weapon.

9. 30.06 = "sniper rifle"
The VPC wants the Remington 700 to be listed as a NFA weapon:

One Shot, One Kill: Civilian Sales of Military Sniper Rifles
http://www.vpc.org/graphics/snipcov2.pdf
(pg37): In its 1998 law enforcement catalog, Remington states that “the heart of Remington’s law enforcement rifles is the legendary Model 700 action. This is the same action that is at the core of the advanced M-24 Sniper Weapon System we built for the U.S.
Army.” . . . Given the virtual identity of the core systems, the outright equivalence accorded the sniper and varmint model by the experts, and Remington’s own emphasis on the inclusion of military and police technology in its advertising, we include the Remington Model 700 Varmint Special on this list of civilian sniper rifles.

One Shot, One Kill
Civilian Sales of Military Sniper Rifles
Executive Summary

http://www.vpc.org/studies/sniper.htm
"Gun industry excesses, as exemplified by the sniper rifle, can best be controlled by comprehensive regulation of the firearms industry—virtually the only industry now exempt from consumer health and safety laws. In the absence of overall regulation, the Violence Policy Center proposes the following strategy for dealing with the deadly consequences that are certain to follow this cynical gun industry marketing campaign.

Bring heavy and intermediate sniper rifles under the control of the National Firearms Act
. "

10. You hunters out there...
...should cross post this info to any hunting forums that you belong to.

Let them know that the VPC is after their hunting guns.

might not like the phrase "VPC is after their hunting guns",
but that is indeed what they're after in this case. They wont come right out and say it, but thier intentions are crystal clear.

In the end, I suspect they're after ALL guns.

12. It was a legitimate gift - Not illegal IMO
Form 4473 (or whatever it's called now) asks whether or not you are the actual purchaser. Mrs. Brady apparently was - She used her own money to buy the rifle. Giving it to her son as a gift was a separate transaction, one that the Brady's would like to come under government scrutiny.
