Apparent burglary attempt stopped near Heyworth

By Kevin Simpson
Pantagraph staff

HEYWORTH -- A homeowner's shotgun blast wounded a Bloomington man and foiled what officials believe was a burglary attempt Friday afternoon in rural Heyworth.
The burglary suspect, Shad Hammond, 24, of Bloomington, was being treated Friday afternoon for a shotgun wound at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. Hospital officials declined to release information on his condition Friday night.

McLean County sheriff's police said his injuries were not life-threatening.

1. I am curious of your opinion on this story
You took the time to post it and you are new so I assume it indicates an important issue to you.

I am NOT anti-second amendment, and my quess is that you are not either--but you may be. So what is your opinion.

2. Seems to me that
it's a good thing. I'd rather have those things happen than "burglar kills/wounds homeowner" type of things.

3. No one here is pro-home-owners-getting-shot

I think a post of mine was deleted once for saying all burglars "should" be shot. This is usually a hot-topic here. Maybe it is the forum you posted in--General Discussion gets more notice--or perhaps people are thinking you might be a Freeper troll trying to start trouble. Freepers do not seem to realize we have many right to bear arms members here. (I am not calling you a Freeper--just letting you in on what others may think.)

4. I'm not so sure of that anymore
there are some members of this board with whom I lock heels who who would rather see homeowners without firearms at any cost. What naturally follows from a disarmed segment of the population is that those who ignore laws, bans, decrees, statutes, the Magna Carta, the Marshall Plan (ie crooks) prey upon the helpless.

This whole gun --> anti-gun "debate" (and I use that term very loosely to describe the flamewars that happen here in JPS) is growing very tiresome.

5. You're right
I have a friend who is VERY anti-gun. Yet he is always saying how one day Shrub will round us all up. I would think that alone would be a reason to own a gun--and is the kind of thinking that helped get the 2nd amendment added.
