San Francisco may start gun fight over pro-firearm ads
"A San Francisco transit agency spokesman says the city is investigating whether pro-gun ads, which an advocacy group recently purchased, should have been posted in transit stations this week."

"The city's policy on such ads is strict but clear: It says that 'no advertisement' shall 'promote the use of firearms.'" ...

"Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb says that if San Francisco takes down the advertisements, which also promote his group's gun rights policy conference in a nearby suburb, he'll see them in court: 'All I can do is pray that all the publicity will make them want to decide to take down the ads -- so we can sue!'"

SAF is just itching for a court fight over this.

2. If SF takes them down, they go to court and lose.
Deservingly so.

3. Why? Seriously.

Does the 2nd Amendment guarantee the right to advertise the sale of firearms? Wherever the advertiser wants it to be?

4. Did you look at the ad?
They're not advertising the sale of firearms.

It's about the 2nd Amendment and political conference.

12. Whoops. That was silly of me.
I retract my complaint, and I agree that it's dumb (and futile) of them to ban the ads.

6. Not to mention the set of First Amendment issues involved...
Why would a civic entity want to ban promotion of the Constitution? Hmmmm......

9. No, but the First Amendment guarantees the right to say that the 2ndA is important.
What the city is proposing to do is to censor pro-2ndA speech on the grounds that it "promotes firearms use." Governments can't censor political viewpoints just because they don't like them; that is well established First Amendment case law.

15. Looks like the SAF has SF over a barrel...........

.............and SF knows it. I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if the city decides to pick a fight on this issue.

They'll get their *sses handed to them.

17. The city has reversed itself and is now allowing the ad...
...apparently realizing that striking down their policy on First Amendment grounds
would have been a slam-dunk. (To dispel some of the cognitive dissonance, imagine
that Salt Lake City had passed a law censoring ads for an abortion-rights policy
conference; same thing.)

The ad is not violent, and it's not obscene. It is, however, very subversive
in the lit-crit sense.

Apologies for the huge image size...if anybody knows of a smaller version, I'll edit.

First, have a cookie. You'll feel better:

And when you've finished with the chocolatey goodness, a question:

Would you have been happy about this if the subject of the ad was something you liked?

23. Chances are no one will ever try to break down your door ...
and invade your home, but it does happen.

Some prefer to call a trained expert when such situations occur by dialing 911. Some of us believe in DIY (Do It Yourself) and believe in having the tools and training necessary to handle such a situation.

It's your choice.

As you make your bed, so must you lie in it.

The only gun I'd want to have for home defense besieds a 12ga shotgun is a shorter 12ga shotgun.
