If you live or work in a nice area, you don't need to carry a gun...
Readington Township is a Township located in the easternmost portion of Hunterdon County, New Jersey. As of the United States 2000 Census, the township population was 15,803. Nationwide, Readington Township ranks 87th among the Highest-income places in the United States with a population of at least 10,000.

The odds of bad things happening to you are so improbable. Right.

Ok, so something bad happens... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/05/national/main2652024.shtml?source=mostpop_story, what are the odds that it will ever happen again? You still don't need to carry a gun.

So here I am at work 3 years later and for some reason, I cannot leave. The NJ State Police have asked me and all of my co-workers to stay inside and lock the doors. Again. Right now there is a SP helicopter circling our office and the general area, there are no less than 15 police vehicles in my immediate view. Not to mention dogs and lots of officers running around. You should see some of the hardware these guys are carrying. I bet some of the rifles I am looking at are full-auto.

Need has nothing to do with it. If you are able, willing to take on the responsibility, have the training and are able to get past all of the background checks you should be able to carry if you so choose. But, I live in PA (where I do have a License to Carry), but this is NJ. A may(never, ever, don't even count on it)-issue state. So, my firearm is tucked away in its safe at home and here I sit. Not wanting to run out and start shooting, but it might be nice for the walk to the car.

Good times... Good times...

Now I am waiting in line to have my vehicle searched on the way out.

Heading home.

On edit: Trooper told me they have a suspect in custody.

5. Sounds like a nice place.
Makes me think of the old question "Why do you rob banks?" Answer - "Because that's where the money is".

9. My neighbor in the next apartment flipped his shit
a couple weeks back. Apparently cut himself up, threatened to jump off the balcony, fought with the cops, terrorized his girlfriend and ended up tased, cuffed and stuffed. I thought it was a regular old shouting match (ahh, the beauty of tweakers in lust) until I saw all the cop cars. Cops were yelling at folks to stay inside and lock their doors. Made me rather happy that I'm able to retrieve my shotgun in the unlikely event a spun up neighbor in a speed enhanced psychotic break.

And even if he did make it in, the cops would have been only a minute or two behind him. Kind of comforting except that a minute or two with a blood covered nutjob would probably be enough for him to do some serious damage.

10. Update: Bad guy still on the loose.
The suspect they had in custody was not the bad guy.

PS. Found a fun new website = http://bandittrackernortheast.com/ Check out the suspect on page 2... Good times, good times... Wow! There are a lot of bank robberies. More than I would have thought.

11. Glad you made it back to first. Lot's of robberies which are unnecessary...
My credit union (U. of Texas) has for some years used tellers, sequestered upstairs, who dispense/receive money through the old vacuum tube; there is no money on the main floor, except for the 3-5 folks who just got a $50 cash. No robberies here, fast, and really not any more impersonal on T.V. But tons of robberies at Wells Fargo (almost a sport).
