John B. Catania, 32, pleaded guilty to two counts each of armed robbery, aggravated assault and kidnapping. He also pleaded guilty to being a prohibited gun possessor.
Last October, Tucson police received a 911 call from a woman saying her boyfriend had been shot. When police went to the 3500 block of East Lee Street, they found Catania, who said he had been shot by two men. Catania said he didn't know why he'd been shot.
About a half-hour earlier, police had also received a report of a robbery at the Little Caesar's Restaurant, 1998 E. Irvington Road.
Witnesses told police that the robber shot himself as he placed his handgun in the front waistband of his pants.
Catania has recovered from his gunshot wound and will be sentenced July 27 by Pima County Superior Court Judge Deborah Bernini, said defense attorney Eric Larsen.
Karma!! Shoot yourself during a hold-up, limp home and have your girlfriend call 911. Cops'll never figure that one out!
