Bill authorizing CCW in Restaurants signed into law in Virginia
Governor Bob McDonnell has signed into law a NRA-backed measure allowing right-to-carry permit holders to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense in restaurants, providing they do not consume alcohol. State Senator Emmett Hanger (R-24) and Delegate Todd Gilbert (R-15) were the principal sponsors of Senate Bill 334/House Bill 505.

...

The measure passed the State Senate in February by a margin of 22-18 and passed the House of Delegates in early March with a vote of 72-27. Virginia is the 42nd state to extend self-defense rights to permit holders in restaurants.

Personally I am surprised it has taken this long in VA (who usually is rather progressive of 2A issues). Similar bill passed both Houses but was vetoed by Gov. Kaine.

1. Good
As long as they don't drink. Guns and alcohol never, ever, ever, ever mix.

"Hey Joe, look at the party with all the people getting ripfaced drunk, and one guy drinking tea. He's either a designated driver or carrying and I ain't gonna f*ck with him to find out which".

2. Good.
Because when Osama finally surfaces, it will be in a Denny's in Virginia.

6. Yes, because as we all know, CCL holders are also Federal Law Enforcement agents
Not.

3. I just had a vision of the days of the wild wild west
when cowboys walked into a saloon, got their
"sarsparilla" leaned over the bar and talked about the herds of cattle they just brought into town. Then, some old crank comes over and tells him about the time the Indians waylaid his herd. All of a sudden guns come out of their holsters and all hell breaks loose. Who're you callin' a liar? Card players duck under tables, the local harlot starts screaming and yells "It's all the fault of the NRA!

5. Ahh, hollywood..
I have visions of fighting dragons, or piloting a spaceship against the invading armada.

They have as much relationship to reality as does your vision of the 'wild wild west'.

4. I don't like guns and think there are way too many of them,
but I'm changing my opinion about CCW laws. I'd rather the weapons be UNconcealed so we know who has them and who not to serve liquor to and who not to engage in confrontation with. But that's just me. :hi:

7. Why would you want to go around engaging in violent confrontations with people?

8. Good question. But I didn't say "violent".
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 05:03 PM by FLyellowdog
Sometimes I have a tendency to take a stand on one thing or another...nothing particularly important (and certainly not violent) except when it comes to politics. I will correct lies about various things when I have the knowledge and references to do so. But I wouldn't engage in such discussions with someone if I knew they had a gun. I'm just a chicken, I guess. :scared:

9. Oh, I thought you meant like going around instigating violent confrontations
Not really the same thing as engaging in a discussion, even a heated one.

I can't remember ever hearing about someone with a carry permit shooting someone over a discussion, if that makes you feel any braver.

10. I guess I tend to view the use of "confrontation" in conjunction with
a fear of being shot to mean that you meant physical confrontation.

Depending on your state, chances are pretty good that you have engaged in numerous discussions with people who were carrying a gun in the past.

Florida? Oh yeah, you've had chats with people carrying a gun before. Your state kicked off the great concealed carry revolution of the 1980s after all.

12. I talk to a lot of people in Florida ...
while I'm carrying.

Nobody knows I'm "packing heat". I'm always polite and non-confrontational. I don't go looking for trouble.

If anything, I'm a nicer person since I started carrying a firearm. For example, I don't give people the finger anymore when they cut me off in traffic or pull out in front of me.

I'm not at all unusual. The people I know who have concealed weapons permits value them highly and don't want to lose them over some foolish incident.

Perhaps there is some truth in the statement, "An armed society is a polite society."
