One person's view on Chicago gun law ...

Chicago and guns
April 1, 10:44 PMChicago African American Issues ExaminerNaji Djere

Recently I discovered that Chicago, IL is by far the most Anti-gun city in the United States. And quite frankly I've learned that that is probably the main reason why violent crime and police corruption are so high in this city. The main reason for this is the Chicago gun ban and the gun turn in program.

Chicago Gun Ban

Who : The gun law was passed by former Chicago Mayor Jane Margaret Byrne and was pushed heavily by former Alderman Fred Roti, Ed Burke and Wilson Frost

What : Bans Chicagoans from owning or bearing arms in open carry, concealed carry or otherwise. Police officers, Alderman, City Govt. officials, Certain security guards and unfortunately small time and big time criminals are exempt. Leaving the average everyday law abiding citizen extremely vulnerable.

Where : Chicago, IL., surrounding suburbs and almost the entire state of Illinois. But The ban is one of the strictest gun ban laws in the country. No one except a select few are allowed to own a gun in Chicago, IL.

When : Began on March 20, 1982 and is still in effect today.

Why : It is said that the higher ups, Mayor Daley and many Alderman want to protect Chicagoans and reduce the amount of violence in Chicago streets. Although there appears to be quite a bit of evidence suggesting that it was high level criminals that pushed for the gun ban. That way they and other criminals have less resistance when committing crime.

My opinion on Chicago gun laws
April 2, 6:13 PMChicago African American Issues ExaminerNaji Djere
***snip***

Here's my take on it. I am starting to see that cities, neghborhoods would be safer if law abding citizens have the right to own guns. The logic behind it does make sense.

Disarm the community and both big and small criminals can attack, rob, hurt everyone and they can't defend themselves. But allow everyone to have guns and even though it's easier for criminals to get them it's also ten times harder for them to rob or hurt someone. Pure logic!

Enforce 10,000 laws and criminals break the law. Enforce 10 laws and CRIMINALS BREAK THE LAW!!! Enforcing the gun restrictions on people will do nothing to stop criminals. But allowing people to uphold the 2nd Amendment CORRECTLY at least equalizes the playing field and apparently reduces atleast the violent crimes, deaths, gang fights, burglaries etc.

At one point I was against guns but now I feel that I'm slowly changing my views. One thing that's interesting is that in black communities of Chicago there appears to more violent crime, petty crime etc. The police take forever to get there when you need them and we are surveyed more than ever with those stupid, pointless cameras and we're not allowed guns to defend ourselves.

Then people question why do we have such high murder rates in the black communities? A few years ago wasn't there a story of a black woman who called the police on her husband who was breaking into her home and the police took twenty minutes to get to her residence. When they got there, she was dead already.

Wouldn't repaealing the gun ban and allowing Chicagoans to uphold the Second Amendment stop nonsense like that from happening? Slowly but surely I am becoming more and more conscious of what it really means to defend yourself as an American citizen.

In the city of Chicago which has been toutued as the murder capitol of the United States. It is in my estimation looking more and more insane to think we even have a gun ban in the first place.

Woman dies while calling Chicago Police!!!

Some people must still be trying to pry their jaws off the floor.

Someone in Chicago gets it. Most excellent.

2. I don't believe that there is much that the people who favor Chicago gun control ...
can argue in reply.

The most interesting part of the opinion piece to me was the statement,

Why : It is said that the higher ups, Mayor Daley and many Alderman want to protect Chicagoans and reduce the amount of violence in Chicago streets. Although there appears to be quite a bit of evidence suggesting that it was high level criminals that pushed for the gun ban. That way they and other criminals have less resistance when committing crime.

I always suspected this and there is no doubt that Chicago has had corruption problems in the past.

3. The chains fall from another mind.
Slaves were taught that they had no right to resist rape or violence. The modern version is that "urban folks" shouldn't be armed for defense--even "urban folks" with perfect criminal records and training.

"Urban folk" can't be trusted, and they are indoctrinated to accept that from a young age. Some "urban folk" are breaking the mental chains, however, and realizing that they have the same rights to self-defense and the means to self-defense as non-urban people.
