Man On Trial For Fatal Russian Roulette Game In Maine Sex Dungeon
This guy needs a lesson in gun responsibility. Always. ALWAYS make sure the chamber is empty when playing Russian Roulette.

The NRA offers a course in this, I would expect.
_________________________________

PORTLAND, Maine — A gun collector who introduced several weapons into sexual play with two other men contends the weapons were intended to fulfill a sexual fantasy. Instead, a lethal combination of drugs, extreme sex and Russian roulette has put him on trial for manslaughter.

Both the defense and prosecutors say there was no intention to kill. But prosecutors say defendant Bruce Lavallee-Davidson, a farmer from Skowhegan, was responsible for ensuring his gun wasn't loaded when it was being handled.

The trial in Portland, the state's largest city, has shed light on a dungeon in a home in neighboring South Portland filled with sexual toys that three men used as a drug-fueled escape from reality. But Assistant Attorney General Lisa Marchese says the focus should be on the handling of the gun – not the sexual acts in the victim's basement.

"You never point a loaded gun at someone's head," Marchese said after resting her case Tuesday, emphasizing it's the responsibility of the person holding the revolver to ensure the chamber is empty. "You don't point a gun and pull the trigger unless you're 100 percent sure."

Cute kittens. I am a cat lover too. They are wonderfully loving animals, and totally ready to defend their rights with considerable violence if they need to.

25. But you can fix kittens.
And what's the point of playing Russian Roulette if the gun is empty?

Of course, the bigger question IS: "what's the point of playing Russian Roulette?"

2. Marchese almost has it right.
You don't point a gun and pull the trigger unless you're shooting something. Even if you're "100%" sure the chamber is empty. That's what I teach my kids, anyway. Maybe it's different in sex dungeons.

6. Why does anyone play russian roulette?
That- just playing with guns in this sort of way -should be against the law, for exactly this reason.

8. OMG, seriously?
No offense, but that's honestly as stupid as saying that suicide should be illegal for that very reason. You don't need a law every time a couple of consensual adults decide to do something amazingly stupid to one another (in this case, aiming guns at each others heads).

Laws are NOT the answer to every single problem in the universe, and they will NEVER be able to stop people from being stupid.

9. I would argue that you have a perfect right to play russian roulette
as long as it's solitary.

I might even be tempted to say that you could play with a companion as long as there is documented and legitimate consent. It seems to me that there are plenty of things people can do that have a 1 in 6 or so chance of killing them--perfectly legal things.

I tend to want to maximize liberty.

7. Unfortunately, the part the conservative radio hosts in my area keyed in on was this:
"The Dartmouth College graduate was in a committed relationship when he testified in favor of keeping Maine's now-overturned gay marriage law at a public hearing, four days after the discovery of the body of 50-year-old Fred Wilson and a couple of weeks before he was indicted."

I wonder, onehandle, if your ignorant remarks in reference to the NRA would have gone over as well if you had directed it at a gay rights organization. "GLAD offers a course in this, I would expect."

Careful onehandle, your prejudice is showing.

Edited on Thu Jan-14-10 09:16 AM by OneTenthofOnePercent
Have a bystander randomly load them into the magazine. Randomly choose the order of succession for people playing.
Much better chances... like 14:1 survival versus 5:1 for a revolver.

FYI: Playing russian roulette with a loaded semi-auto is often called Polish Roulette. LOL.

20. Russian Roulette
Russian Roulette doesn't seem like it would be very much fun.

Unless you were playing with someone you really, really, really despised.

For example, for the good of my country, I'd gladly play Russian Roulette with George W. Bush.

31. In which case, it'd better be loaded.
The Assistant Attorney General seems to imply that it's OK to point real guns at other people and pull the trigger if you are "certain" they're unloaded. From where I'm standing, that looks like aggravated assault to me, but what do I know.

30. The Four Rules of gun safety...
RULE I: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

RULE II: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY

RULE III: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET

"You never point a loaded gun at someone's head," (Assistant Attorney General) Marchese said after resting her case Tuesday, emphasizing it's the responsibility of the person holding the revolver to ensure the chamber is empty. "You don't point a gun and pull the trigger unless you're 100 percent sure."

The Assistant Attorney General is a bit off-base here. It is NOT OK to point a gun you think is unloaded (even if you are "100% certain" it's unloaded) at another person and pull the trigger. Period.

41. This should be superfluous, but it's not
Yes, benEzra is entirely correct: Asst. A-G Marchese should have said "You don't point a gun at someone and pull the trigger unless you fully intend to shoot him, and are prepared to face a charge of attempted murder, or worse."

There is a limited set of circumstances in which it is legally (and morally) permissible to point a gun at someone at pull the trigger, and that is while attempting to prevent that person from unlawfully inflicting death or permanent injury to yourself or others.

32. some comments
Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 07:48 PM by 90-percent
My late father was a gun enthusiast. I grew up around guns. He had me shooting high powered rifles from the wars of the previous century at the age of fucking five.

But he did teach me well. Really drummed it in about the proper way to handle a gun - at least always aim it at the ground unless you're shooting, safety on always.

When I was 19 the guys were goofing around and joking and maybe being a wee bit mean. This one guy I don't like took a gun from the rack, pointed it directly at me and asked; "Hey Jim, you think it's loaded? I heard the click of the trigger before I dived for cover. Not lighting reflexes here. (My friend was a hunting type. I'm almost sure he checked the gun out before he pulled that)

My dad was in the habit of using his guns for security. He would answer the door with a gun in his hand at night, especially if he drank more than usual. He told me he kept ONE OF THE RIFLES in the rack over the fire place loaded, for some hypothetical attack some day, should I need to defend myself.

So that's how close I became to being a statistic to show how dangerous guns at home can be!

I think Russian Roulette was a form of torture for American POW's during Viet Nam? That was in Apocalypse Now, wasn't it?

DON'T TELL DICK CHENEY! That's all we need! His CIA black Op's army getting caught practicing yet another torture technique. Hey, if we don't use any bullets, it's not even as bad as water boarding!
