TEXAS CITY, Texas — A woman tied by masked home invaders escaped her bindings, grabbed her gun and pointed the barrel at an intruder in her living room, authorities said Monday.
Christy Valdez, 30, was at her home in the 1800 block of 19th Avenue North about 10 p.m. Friday when she heard someone opening the screen door, Texas City police Sgt. Joe Stanton said. As she walked toward the front door, the doorbell rang, Stanton said.
"She opened the door and a male suspect pushed his way past her and struck her in the face with some type of bag," Stanton said in a statement.
A woman entered the house next, Stanton said. Police don’t believe Valdez is acquainted with either intruder, Stanton said. Both demanded guns and money, he said.
The man pushed Valdez into her bedroom and restrained her with a gray cord, he said.
Valdez told police she could hear the woman ransacking her house. After several minutes, the man walked out of the room and spoke to his accomplice in Spanish. Valdez then freed herself and retrieved a firearm, Stanton said.
"The victim then exited the bedroom and found the female inside her living room," Stanton said. "The victim pointed the gun at the female suspect, who then ran out the door."
