An exercise in language
It has been said that pro-gunners ignore the first half of the second amendment. I don't agree.

Lets try this.

This is the first half of the second amendment:

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,"

Rephrase it, keeping the phrase "well regulated militia" intact, but in modern plain language.

For example:

"A well regulated militia, because it is necessary to the security of a free state,"

Try to keep it simple, not an exercise in lawspeak.

The goal of this exercise, is to debate the meaning of the first half of the amendment, but in doing so, expressing it in modern plain language.
