http://www.seattlepi.com/local/30597_schell09.shtmlWearing dark glasses to mask an eye badly swollen from multiple facial fractures, Mayor Paul Schell gamely gave a "thumbs up" as he walked out of Harborview Medical Center Sunday morning.
With his wife's hand in his, the mayor took off his glasses to reveal the large, purplish wound he suffered in an assault Saturday. And he immediately picked up the theme he had been talking about before he was smashed with a protester's bullhorn at a Central District unity celebration Saturday afternoon.
"There's a need for people to continue working to find common ground," the mayor said, indicating the assault won't deter him from doing so.
"We can't let an incident like this get in the way. That's my job, to be out there. I need to work directly with the citizens," added Schell, thanking well-wishers, especially black leaders, for an outpouring of support.
