South Carolina will offer tax-free holiday on guns
Edited on Thu Nov-19-09 10:41 PM by GreenStormCloud
COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina shoppers will get a second chance to buy tax-free guns.

The state Revenue Department sent out a reminder yesterday of the "Second Amendment Weekend." The 48-hour tax break begins just after midnight the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Shoppers will pay no state or local sales taxes on handguns, rifles and shotguns, which can tally 9 percent. Taxes still apply to ammunition and accessories.

South Carolina had the nation's first tax holiday on guns last year, after legislators tacked it on to a tax break on energy-efficient appliances. But the state Supreme Court threw out that law in May because of an unrelated energy amendment. Legislators restored the tax break as a one-time event in the budget this year.

3. Santa Baby, put a Ruger under the tree for me, you know I've been an awfully good girl,

Buh-bum.. buh-bum...
Santa baby, just slip a Springfield under the tree, for me
Been an awful good girl
Santa baby so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, a Ruger 38 too, light blue,
I'll wait up for you dear
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun I've missed,
Think of all the fellows that I haven't kissed
Next year I could be just as good
If you check off my christmas list

Come and trim my chirstmas tree,
With some decorations bought at armories
I really do believe in you,
Let's see if you believe in me

Hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry, tonight.

12. If you mean a Ruger LCR .38 caliber revolver...
there's a bunch of people who would love to get one for Christmas.

For last Christmas I decided to buy my son in law a Ruger LCP .380 caliber pistol. The waiting list was so long that he got it in March. He felt it was worth the wait and now it is his primary carry weapon.

Before, he carried a small Glock 26 .40 cal with a Laser sight. He often carried it in his pocket without a round in the chamber. He wasn't really confident in the Glock "Safe Action". The Ruger LCP was lighter and easier to carry in his pocket and he is far more confident in the Double Action Only trigger and feels it's safer.

Ruger LCR and LCP

Glock 26

I'll stick with my pocket gun, a Model 642 S&W .38 Special. It's a little power house but looks better than any of the other guns mentioned.

Note: I love to post gun porn. It promotes interest in those who are curious about firearms and probably irritates the anti-gun crowd.

5. Gun worship really is like god worship - tax free. The rest of us pay the tab for the mayhem.

11. I probably shouldn't waste my time replying...
but if you think that the average gun owner is anxiously waiting for the opportunity to legally blow some fool away, you are sadly mistaken.

8. Normally I think tax break weekends are stupid, but not in this case
When you buy a firearm, there is an 11% federal excise tax.

We need to eliminate this tax. The tax is used to preserve parks and wildlife areas. I'm not against preserving wild life, but why tax gun purchases to pay for this? I would be 90% of guns are never used for hunting.

Since any guns purchased that weekend are already paying an 11% tax hidden in the price, I see nothing wrong with getting rid of a 9% tax for a weekend.

9. There is an 11% excise tax on all guns and all ammunition IN ADDITION to state sales taxes.
The majority of taxes on guns are Federal, not state. There is also usually a fee for conducting the NICS background check at the point of sale, as I recall.

13. There you go again, muddying an ideal with grubby reality
Please keep doing it. The reality-challenged are an annoyance.

10. Criminals and drug gangs cause most of the mayhem...
they rarely buy guns in a gun store.

16. very nice for the residents of SC. As a GA resident just a stone's throw from SC..

...I could only take advantage of the tax break if I bought a long gun. Handguns still have to be shipped and transferred to FFL in GA.

Everyone appreciates a tax break.
