Wow, you will be able to carry guns in outhouses in national parks...
Americans will be able to carry loaded guns in National Parks starting on February 22, 2010 thanks to the Coburn Amendment which was attached to the federal Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009 and signed by President Obama earlier this year. That Congressional mandate at Section 512 of the Act immunizes Americans from the National Park Service's gun carry ban provided that the gun carry does not violate any other state or federal law.

***snip***

Several recent news reports note surprise by some observers that the Coburn Amendment permits both concealed and open carry of firearms, including long guns, on National Park property. However the National Park Service seems to be taking things in stride.

According to National Park Spokesperson Phil Selleck, the Park Service is not going to go through any formal rulemaking process for each park. Instead said Selleck, the Service is going to work to "educate the public" and park employees on the gun carry rights in each park. Selleck said that federal law at 18 U.S.C. 930 continues to ban gun carry in "federal facilities," but advised that the Park Service does not consider unattended structures such as "outhouses" to be federal facilities because "employees are not regularly present there to perform official duties."

26. Found a possum in the outhouse tale...
Yall have reminded me of the possum that one day found itself in our outhouse hole. Or did it go there by choice? Did it need to go? Anyway, to those who think a possum's diet is shitty, this one could have testified to the truth of that. Our son Derek who was about 8 at the time, came running into the house singing "there's a possum in the outhouse hole, possum in the outhouse hole and we can't poop no more." Had everyone's attention in no time flat, I can tell you. That poor possum didn't live long to tell the tale of that adventure--we found him dead in the yard a few hours later.

15. Awww, what's wrong, Michael.
You can't stand certain civil rights issues dirtying up your pretty little world outside the gun forums?

Tell me, are you as anal about other issues being in their "proper" forums as well? Somehow I think not.

28. Well, not Yosemite, but Yellowstone certainly
Bear in mind that what applies is the state law of the state the park is in, so in Yosemite, you'd either have to have a California CCW permit, or you'd have to open carry unloaded.

13. A firearm is useless in an outhouse.
Once you decide to sit down, your fate is sealed one way or the other. The Gods of Shite will either release the creatures mutating there or they won't.

Using an outhouse is an ultimate leap in faith. It's even more so if you have taken a look and have a clue what is in one. Sitting over the primordial ooze with your bare ass arrayed as a target is probably Gawd's favorite channel on his cable. He has to get some harmless grins somewhere.

20. Much worse...
It was both disgusting and hilarious. I was hoping the cat would run into my buddy's tent as soon as he set it free. Getting the lasso off of it in the confines of the outhouse was really entertaining. That was one unhappy and messy cat.

27. That reminds me of a story...
Grab yourself a libation, because this is a long one.

This was in June 1994, and I was assisting on Exercise "Noble Falcon II," the final exercise for our brigade's second infantry battalion before they rotated out to Srebrenica as DUTCHBAT. We tried to simulate the actual deployment, in which the battalion's Bravo, Charlie and Headquarters companies would be stationed in the Srebrenica enclave itself (the "Box"), while Alpha company would be at Simin Han in Bosnian government-held territory, performing aid convoy escorts through Serb-held territory to the enclave. The "Box" was located in Vogelsang training area in Germany, close to the Belgian border, while "Simin Han" was located in Elsenborn training area, just across the border in Belgium. Also stationed at "Simin Han" was a detachment of the RNLAF's 299 Squadron, operating four Bolkow-105 scout/liaison helicopters.

The problem with holding military exercises is that, all too often, there are other units using the area who aren't part of your exercise, and it's always a bit of a conundrum what do with them. Do you ignore them, or do treat them like interlopers? In this case, at Camp Elsenborn, some Belgian transport unit practicing convoy procedures rolled into camp, and at one point, one of their drivers casually strolls through the Alpha Co. compound and goes into one of the portapotties (or "Dixies" as they were known in the Dutch army, the manufacturer being Dixi http://www.dixi.nl/index.php?id=toilettenkabinen&no_cache=1) near the 299 Sqn detachment. A couple of the Dutch airmen watch the guy go in, and one says "We're supposed to report intruders, aren't we?"

So the next thing you know, an entire rifle squad from the Quick Reaction Force swoops down on the portapotty, and as six guys cover the door with their weapons, four more throw the cabin onto its side. So the poor Belgian guy is forced to crawl out, with guys pointing guns at him and shouting at him in English and Serbo-Croat, while he's covered with the portapotty's contents. None of the Belgians ever risked using a Dutch toilet for the rest of the week.

SEPTEMBER 1--For the second time, a Maine man has been arrested for climbing down into the waste vault below an outhouse in a national park. Gary Moody, 49, is facing federal charges for a Memorial Day incident at a campground in the White Mountain National Forest, where he was first arrested in 2005 after being spotted in the waste vault beneath a women's toilet (at the time Moody claimed he dropped his wedding ring down the toilet and climbed in to the vault to retrieve it). According to an affidavit filed last week in U.S. District Court in Portland, a nine-year-old boy waiting to use the bathroom noticed that "the toilet had been pulled out and was lying on the floor. At that point a man popped out of the hole leading to the waste vault." After a few minutes, a "completely wet" man exited the restroom and told the boy, "Man, sorry about that, I was getting my shirt." After learning of the bizarre incident, federal investigators immediately suspected Moody had been in the vault "based on the extremely rare nature of this type of activity." When interviewed at his home, Moody admitted climbing into the vault, claiming that his shirt had fallen into the waste chamber. Moody claimed that he had removed his shirt "and placed it on the seat of the outhouse because he thinks that outhouse seats are dirty." When a federal agent commented that it did not make sense to "climb into an outhouse pit if he didn't like to even sit on outhouse seats," Moody fell silent. When asked if he had "ever had counseling because of the outhouse problem," Moody said no, adding that he had "anger toward society because of how he was treated after he was found in the pit of a National Forest outhouse in 2005

30. amen brother
nothing like waking up in the morning in the back country outside of yellowstone hearing a big ruckus and wondering why your golden lab isn,t running around licking your face, then you peek out the tent door to see this pack of wolves dining on your best bud.
unfortunitly the enviromentalists have pushed and have them protected now so all i could do is cower in my tent till they finished her off and left.
nothing like 6 wolves 8 feet from ya to get your attention. :( ya think those wolves would have enuff sense to listen to all the scientist insisting that im not supposed to be on the menu, guess they didn't get the memo
