Yet another family tragedy west of Bondi

Suspect 'resented' father and sister

NICK O'MALLEY, GEORGINA ROBINSON AND GEESCHE JACOBSEN
November 14, 2009

IN THE depths of his illness, Antony Waterlow, the man wanted by police after the stabbing murders of his father, Nicholas, and sister, Chloe, in Randwick on Monday, harboured a deep resentment against his family.

A family friend understands that after Mr Waterlow's mother, Romy, died in 1998, he was not given access to his share of the inheritance, perhaps due to his schizophrenia....

....''As soon as he was drunk he turned into a monster. All of a sudden he would snap and you could see it happen. His eyes would change and he would go violent over nothing. He was banned from a lot of pubs....

...It is understood that he was known by staff at St Vincent's Hospital's psychiatric unit, some of whom were also aware of his feelings towards his family....

This, in addition to the man stabbed in Canley Heights recently:

Those of you who think you're "good guys" or making yourselves and your loved ones "safer" might want to think again. This could be your legacy, too,

Two sets of preventable tragedies but for knife proliferation...

2. Unpossible! One, no gun was used...
...two, this didn't happen in the U.S., and since we know that Australians don't murder each other since the Buyback, this must be a fabrication.

3. That doesn't qualify as a "mass murder" in Australia
The people who want to prove their draconian gun control is effective always define "mass murder" as four or five (or more) people killed by one assailant within a 24 hour period.

A lot of near-mass murders don't get reported as mass murders.

4. So this is depakid's superior society?
But I thought things like this just couldn't happen without guns?

Seriously though, this is a damned sad story, and my heart goes out to these people. I can't even say that this is a case where if the victims owned a firearm it would have helped them much, because I don't know how easy of a time somebody would have of shooting their brother/son, even if he was threatening their life. My guess is that it would be damned difficult indeed, if not impossible in most cases.

6. That was my point. Tragedies like this are the same no matter the locale
or the means used. They don't become doubleplus ungood because they happened in the States with a gun instead of Oz
with a knife (or knives).

Just sad all around...

5. Maybe there will be a buy-back program for knives!!!
I've got a kitchen drawer full of them.
