Surprised?
______________

On edit: Some DUers seem to think that the NRA is some sort of arm of the military. Put down the freeper/teabagger/minuteman kool-aid and walk away.

They aren't.

17. HURRDURR
The NRA is the leading firearms training organization in the country. If somebody wants to become more proficient, guess who they're going to be teaching the class? The NRA teaches safety and marksmanship to thousands of cops and soldiers each year, along with countless civilians.

There are millions of people that are NRA members who don't shoot people. And while I'm pro-gun control and despise the lobbying arm of the NRA, there's nothing wrong with owning guns or an organization that teaches people how to use them safely and effectively.

19. The NRA trains more police, hunters, and gun owners than any other organization..

The NRA teaches hunter safety, basic gun safety, and rifle and pistol marksmanship. How many kids have been saved because of the cable locks that the NRA gives out? How many hunters are alive today because of the tenets they learned from an NRA certified instructor?

25. I don't know about that, but Sgt. Kimberley Munley is apparently a gun enthusiast
and "talented shooter" (ABC News) who grew up right here in eastern NC and shot her first deer when she was 11 years old.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/07/us/07police.html

Mr. Medley said Sergeant Munley was an advanced firearms instructor for the civilian force, which is used to assist the military police with policing the vast fort, where 150,000 soldiers and their families live and work.

Sergeant Munley’s father, Dennis Barbour, owns a hardware store in Carolina Beach, N.C., and is a former mayor.

She worked as an officer in the Wrightsville Beach Police Department from March 2000 to February 2002, receiving three letters of commendation, Police Chief John S. Carey said. Her marksmanship was impeccable, Chief Carey said.

“She was very friendly and outgoing,” the chief recalled. “She was pretty fearless, considering she is such a small officer.”

She developed a love of shooting as a young girl, her grandmother Monirie Metz said. She killed her first deer when she was 11 on a hunting trip with her grandfather.

She was also an avid surfer as a teenager, attacking the sport with the same verve and courage she showed in other parts of her life, her grandmother recalled.

But when she discovered police work, she found her true calling, Ms. Metz said. “She loves that work,” she said.

Sort of undermines your "gun enthusiasts are evil scum" meme, since the Ft. Hood shooter was not a gun enthusiast but Sgt. Munley was.

Million Mom Marcher Barbara Graham shoots innocent man Kikko Smith - also known as Barbara Lipscomb.

"You can't tell the kids to stop the violence with the mothers running around like this." --- Mary Ann Smith, after her son was shot by a Million Mom Marcher

After helping to organize the Million Mom March, and even speaking at the event, Barbara Graham shot an innocent man. Now he is paralyzed for life.

Million Mom Marcher Barbara Graham was convicted on nine counts of breaking seven different gun-control laws after she shot construction worker Kikko Smith. Million Mom March (MMM) co-organizer Barbara Graham is also known as Barbara Lipscomb, Barbara Graham, Barbara Martin, Barbara Ann Lipscomb, Barbara Ann Graham, and Barbara Ann Martin.

The press release Woman Sentenced for Shooting and Paralyzing Innocent Unarmed Man from the U.S. Department of Justice lists some of the charges: Assault With Intent To Kill While Armed, Aggravated Assault While Armed, Mayhem While Armed, three separate counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime of Violence, and other related gun charges.

The NRA teaches the legal use of firearms and gun safety. If you then willfully decide to murder people that is no accident.

USU being the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He also attended a number of mosques. Are they all tainted by association? If the guy had been Microsoft Certified in some computer skill, would that have tainted Microsoft?

Moreover, the NRA's training courses are run on a franchise basis. Instructors are certified by the NRA, and have to use teaching materials and a curriculum drawn up and supplied by the NRA, but the instructors themselves are independent operators. They are not paid by the NRA; they make their money from class fees.

The NRA didn't train him to be a mass murderer.
