2. Eleanor was a very public figure and regularly received death threats for her civil rights stance.
She was an extremely gutsy woman, who refused Secret Service protection and began to carry a gun only after federal agents strongly suggested it. In 1958, the KKK announced a $25,000 bounty on her. There were plenty of armed white racists who wanted her dead and made sure she knew it

3. I am well aware of the circumstances surrounding Eleanor...
The question I have: is her life worth any more than someone else who is similarly threatened? She took reasonable steps in the face of the threat. Others should have that right as well. Unlike Diane Feinstein (a virulent gun-banner who once packed when she felt it was necessary), Eleanor would in all likelihood have defended others to have the same rights she had.

Please note that celebrities, pro athletes, politicians (many anti-gun), and wealthy individuals in NYC can get a "may issue" license for a firearm, but some poor mother with 4 kids in an apartment is unlikely to receive such privileged dispensation.

11. Interesting: guy shoots three people in two months in "self-defense." Your link says
police are investigating his most recent claim. The story is about two years old. What finally happened in the investigation?

8.  Eleanor was special and *should* have had a carry permit?

OIC, she was of the elite, not one of the grubby proles.

How un-democratic of you!
