Home Invader Attacks Resident While Resident Had Gun, HI Gets Shot.
http://www.nbc-2.com/Global/story.asp?S=11384156

I will summarize the article.

Two bad guys burst into the home of Peter L. Gilmore, 69, and his son James S. McGlone, 25. They were attempt to take the senior's meds, and Joshua Eugene Becerril, 29 held a knife to his throat. Keith Sowers, 32 had a tire iron and chased McGlone to a bedroom. McGlone got a handgun, ordered Sowers to leaft. Sowers charged, swinging the tire iron, hitting McGlone a glancing blow on the head. McGlone shoots (finally), hits Sowers in the stomach. Both BG leave, Sowers goes to hospital.

Lessons to learn from this: Once the violence has started, the time for warnings is past. McGlone should have started shooting just as soon has he had his gun on target. Instead the BG was able to get a swing in with the tire iron that could have killed McGlone.

2. If this crime is ever solved the shooter will almost certainly be...
someone who was already illegal to have a gun. Likely the person will have several priors.

Please explain how removing guns from the law abiding will stop crime such at that.

As it will make possible the thousands and thousands of additional gun deaths to come in its wake...

6. But the guns the criminals used were already illegal for them to have.
Taking my gun away from me does nothing to take the criminals gun away from him. But it does leave me helpless in the face of violent crime.

If you did manage to uninvent guns, then criminals would have the upper hand due to their youth and strength and they would use edged weapons and clubs against those of us who are weaker.

10. You grabbers have been predicting the "bloodbath"
because of legal gun ownership. Yet violent crime continues to fall.

Where are these "thousands and thousands of deaths"?

You're free to send letters to the high school, explaining how if more students came to football games armed, life would be wonderful and Oh But Of Course this could've been avoided...

13. Avoid the question with emotions.
Typical when the anti-Rights crowd can't back their arguments.

Is violent gun crime rising?

Were those shooters from the high school legal gun owners?

Where are the daily bloodbaths you keep predicating?

15. Sounds like a gang drive-by.
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 07:22 PM by GreenStormCloud
Already illegal for gang-bangers to have guns. Outlawing my possession of guns does nothing to stop gangs from getting guns.

In fact, in Texas we don't seem to have many drive-by shootings. Those seem to occur in states with strongly restrictive gun laws where the shooters know that there won't be any return fire.

We do get a few, so don't misquote me as claiming that we don't have any. A quick google showed two or three drive-bys in the past few months. A google of California showed a large number of drive-bys. A bunch in New York too. I will grant that such a google search is not scientifically valid. Does anybody know of a website that keeps track of drive-bys?

14. What law
would you propose that would have allowed the homeowner in the OP to defend himself while at the same time keeping the girl in the news item you posted safe from a stray round from a driveby?

7. He tried to be kind and non-lethal in the face of violent felons...
who were already using lethal force. He didn't shoot as soon as he had the gun on target. He tried to tell the goblin to leave and got hit on the head with a tire iron for his kindness. He was lucky that it was a glancing blow. A solid direct hit would have won the day for the criminal.

Once the violence has started, hesitation in shooting can be fatal for the defender. My point in starting this thread was to show the danger of hesitating.

Double tap would have been nice.

Best would have been a double tap before getting hit on the head. Those shots would likely have been center mass, and then he could have quickly stepped back into the room where his Dad was and dealt with that goblin.

8. Yep
once they initiate violence anything you do in defense of your own person, or loved ones is entirely on them.

9.  He also forgot Gunfight Rule #1
"If violence is offered you have to be willing to be a bigger, meaner SOB than they are. Don't give up, and don't give them a chance!"
A Marine Master Gunner once told me(at the time I was a mere recruit)" If you are the last on standing, breathing, and not bleeding too much, then YOU ARE THE WINNER. And the first one is optional!
