First of all, until about a month ago, and it is still on www.change.gov, it was listed on President Obama's web site under urban policy on www.whitehouse.gov, that it was the intention of the administration to re-instate the Assault Weapons Ban.

Further, in February, President Obama's Attorney General, Eric Holder, announced his intention to re-instate the Assault Weapons Ban. Holder's announcement was immediately downplayed by Nancy Pelosi and others, who toed the NRA line saying, "We just need to enforce the laws we have."

So it is quite clear that Administration has, up until quite recently, espoused bans on certain kinds of firearms.

Is it paranoid or delusional for firearm owners to take the administration at it's word?

Of course the counter argument is always, "yeah, but that's not confiscation!. Firearm bans are just as bad as confiscation - they just take longer to get the firearms out of circulation. Banning future sales of a certain kind of firearm may not affect me if I've already bought one, but it affects all future firearm buyers. I will not fall for the "I got mine, screw everyone else" mentality.
