Ten year old girl locked in gun safe...
BRETHREN, Mich. - Authorities say a 10-year-old Michigan girl was rescued after being accidentally locked inside a gun safe for about 40 minutes.

State troopers and sheriff's deputies responded Friday to the Manistee County home, near Brethren. Authorities drilled a hole in the safe for air and opened it after getting directions from a locksmith.

TV stations WWTV and WWUP report the girl was playing when her brother and cousin locked her inside the 50-year-old safe. The boys alerted the girl's mother, but police were called because nobody knew the combination.

The girl was examined by rescuers but didn't require hospitalization.

1. WTF? A 50 year old safe that nobody knew the combination to??
Abandoned refrigerators are bad enough, but having a safe that nobody knows the combination to?

6. Probably inherited. You should see what I have seen in such situations.

2. Why exactly would somebody own a gun safe if they didn't know the combination?
I'm assuming there were no guns in it, or they probably would have told the girl to shoot the lock from inside.

3. Shoot the lock from inside?
I think you have been watching too much TV/movies.

4. A joke right?
Safe is essentially a bullet proof box so firing a bullet inside a bullet proof box = worst idea ever.

13. Yours too.
Seriously, you think a safe is 'bullet proof'?

14. tell you what you climb inside one and discharge a firearm preferably with some full metal jackets..
you let me know what happens.

Nothing is 100% "bullet proof" however the likelyhood the round keeps bouncing around until it hits something soft and squishy is very high.

15. Don't know what kind of safe you have but
even my most mild rifles will perforate mine. Possibly excepting work hardened ridges, and any of the tempered locking hardware.

Pistols not so much.

10. I love it.
You call us "gun nuts" and we are regularly accused of not caring about safety, yet when we see somebody say something jaw-droppingly stupid and unsafe and call them out on it, then we get told to "lighten up."

Make. Up. Your. God. Damn. Minds!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11. OK, if you want to get serious about it
A gun safe is a great thing to have, provided it's closed and locked with guns inside it. Not when its left open for kids to play in.

But in that respect, its no different than an old refrigerator, which kids also get trapped in from time to time. So its not so much gun safety in this case as it is just goddamn stupid irresponsible parenting on behalf of who ever left this thing accessible to children.

12. Everyone else has already told you what...
...a dangerous and stupid idea that is, and you obviously got it from watching too much tv/movies, so I'm just going to go ahead and make sure you understand there are a few other things in movies that do not work in real life either.

1) If you put on cool back-ground music, it's not going to make you an immortal Jason Borne badass. I know in tv/movie land that background music makes people do cool things, but that's not how it works in real life.
2) It's nearly impossible to hit anything when shooting with one handgun in each hand at the same time. I know in tv/movie land that people who duel-wield handguns seem to hit every last thing they shoot at, but that's not how it works in real life.
3) Unlike in the Matrix, if you get involved in a gun fight, you are not going to be able to have such fast reflexes that you can literally see the bullets coming and dodge them in a cool and badass manner.

I hope this helps you, so you don't go running around in life thinking that what you see in tv/movies actually works.

16. Question: When is a door not a door?
Answer: When its ajar.

When is a safe not safe? When you are locked inside it...
