Who shoots someone already in handcuffs laying face down on the ground? Must be a right-wing racist misogynist trigger happy gun loving cop. The mind boggles

If you spend enough time reading this forum you will hear that not only don't civilians need guns, they can't be trusted with them because they lack the required judgment and training that law enforcement officers go through.

If you read more, you may also learn that holders of concealed weapons permits are screened and trained extensively and have very few "accidents" with their guns, unlike cops.

12. sadly, that link doesn't work

If you peer at it, you'll see that it's a generic "searchresults" link.

I'll bet you could find people posting at DU who believe they've been abducted by aliens, too ...

If you read more, you may also learn that holders of concealed weapons permits are screened and trained extensively and have very few "accidents" with their guns, unlike cops.

And if you ponder for a nanosecond, you'd wonder why permit holders would have anywhere near as many accidents with firearms as cops, likelihood of accident being somewhat a function of intensity of use of / contact with firearm ...

But heck, where would I go to learn that permit holders are "trained extensively"?

2. Or maybe just a poorly trained cop
Or one who is sleep deprived because his wife just had a baby a few days earlier.

3. Or has anger issues
Or went for his tazer but grabbed his gun in the heat of the moment.

I agree that there are a lot of possible explanations. I hope an investigation clears things up quickly.

5. A Freudian slip, perhaps?
Maybe so. My gut instinct is not to attribute malice aforethought to the man with the scant information we have here.

6. Another thread provided information that his wife just had a baby
That was my speculation.

We don't know that a murder has occurred.

17. Cops can be gun nuts, too.
Cops can be gun nuts, too. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to learn many cops are cops just because it allows them to plan with guns.

18. You don't need to be a cop to play with guns, but being a cop gives you power over people
that members of the public don't have. Your statement makes sense if you assume that all gun nuts are just busting for a reason to shoot someone.

That said, I have never had an encounter with a cop that was unprofessional or scary in any way. There is no "all cops" just like there is no "all gun nuts".

19. Most police departments get very little training in firearms use,
and usually get their guns and ammunition from the lowest bidder (Glock).

Most police officers are NOT gun enthusiasts, and train only as theie requirements dictate.

Google police/LEO forums and read some of their comments about guns and training. That's where my information comes from.
