Woot! Just voted!
I just voted by absentee ballot since I will be out of the country next week.

Of course I voted for Obama.

I was pleased to note that both my Democratic candidates for US Senator and for the House of Representatives were endorsed by the NRA.

1. yeah me too
I voted Obama too. Not particularly happy about it, but given the competition I didn't have much choice. McCain's a space cadet and I'm pretty sure Palin is a pod person. Biden scares me more than McCain to tell the truth, but I have a little bit of cautious hope for Obama. Then again, I have yet to see a politician run that I would actually WANT to lead the country.

2. I also voted by absentee ballot today...
and I too voted for Obama.

True, I have some misgivings about giving the Democratic Party control of the Presidency, the Senate and the House as I fear they may decide to pass and enact some draconian gun control laws.

But my logical side says that the most they will do is pass another Assault Weapons Ban. All the anti-gun organizations will cheer. The media will join in the celebration. The GunGuys will post adoring articles on their web page.

The new ban will be as big a failure as the last one. Everybody who desires a evil looking semi-auto rifle will buy one before the law takes effect.

Prices on so called "assault rifles" and large capacity magazines will skyrocket, but people will still be able to purchase them.

But Obama has a chance to change the direction this country has been headed in. He has an opportunity to go down in history as one of the few truly great Presidents. I can only hope for his election and for his success as our leader for the next eight years.

3. guns aren't really a problem
Look up a MAK-90 on google images. imported under the assault ban. absolute waste of money. i'm more worried about draconian drug laws, what with biden masterminding the RAVE act among other evil things. i'm foreseeing a national ban on salvia and giving up on medicinal marijuana for at least 4 more years.

5. actually
They tried that once. It went about as well as the "war on drugs." Prohibition of psychoactives is the best thing to ever happen to organized crime.

7. Yeah, the last time...
they did that we got NFA 1934 as a result. Criminals using guns to commit crimes wound up costing lawful citizens.

10. the house my father grew up in was later a women's shelter

Interesting and touching, considering that his father was an abusive alcoholic.

Oh, that's right. Prohibition was all about puritans trying to stop other people from having fun. Not at all about drunken men abusing their wives and children.

11. I also understand that the house I grew up in was also
a stop on the underground railroad for escaped slaves. They also had suffered abuse. Of course all these events occurred long before my family owned the home.

We operated a tourist home in the great old house before the freeways were built and diverted the traffic. I understand the home had been built by a ships captain on the Great Lakes.

Prohibition was a lot like the Assault Weapons Ban. It accomplished little and may have in fact encouraged the behavior it was designed to discourage.

9. interesting

Such strange misgivings, and such eagerness to spout them.

What can you tell me about Biden's evil masterminding?

I'm familiar with his contribution to having the discriminatory crack/cocaine sentencing provisions eliminated earlier this year. That doesn't seem to fit your characterization.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAVE_Act
The stated purpose of the Act was: "A bill to prohibit an individual from knowingly opening, maintaining, managing, controlling, renting, leasing, making available for use, or profiting from any place for the purpose of manufacturing, distributing, or using any controlled substance, and for other purpose."

... and?

6. I'm not too worried yet.
Obama has proven himself to be a very, very smart man. He's as capable a politician as I think I've ever seen. He's taken everything they've thrown at him and he's never lost his composure. I predict good things out of him. I liked Clinton, but didn't really respect him. Obama commands respect because he really does practice what he preaches.

Did you see the infomercial last night? Guess what he didn't mention. Yeah, wasn't that odd that he stayed away from the subject that we dare not mention on the national stage anymore? Obama is not fool enough to risk losing power over a contentious issue of dubious worth, banning "Assault Weapons". He'll just let that sleeping dog lie. The Democrat Party has bigger fish to fry than stripping us of our Constitutional Rights.

12. Nice...
My Senate choices were not endorsed by the NRA, not because they were both antigun, but because they are both progun. YAY. And, one will replace a very antigun Republican who is retiring. !!YAY!! The antigun republican Congressman is retiring as well, and the choices are less than stellar...a Democrat who has an antigun history in the BoS, or some no-name Republican business owner who says he's progun. My delegate endorses his fellow Democrat of course, and since he has worked with gun rights in the past, even though he still clings to this crazy notion of a mythical loophole, he's been reasonable. Hopefully the same is true when we get this new Democrat in the house. As for the Senate, I expect it to go about 60-40 for the Democrat, he was a well respected Governor.
