China turns away HK legislators
BLACKLISTED: The communist state prevented two of Hong Kong's opposition lawmakers from entering the country, refusing to specify why they had been barred

AP , HONG KONG
Friday, Apr 23, 2004,Page 5

The debate over Hong Kong democracy turned into a political showdown at the border yesterday, as China barred two opposition lawmakers from entering while admitting three others who tried but failed to meet with a top Chinese official.

The three pro-democracy lawmakers made it as far as the hotel where Qiao Xiaoyang (???), one of China's top lawmakers, was discussing political reforms with Beijing's Hong Kong allies. Qiao refused to meet with the politicians but he dispatched one of his deputies, Li Fei (??), to talk with them for about 90 minutes.

I'm sure China is more of a threat to America than Saddam's Iraq was.
