US apologises over Japan murder

The US ambassador to Japan has apologised to the family
of a murdered taxi driver, after a US sailor was arrested
for the killing.

Thomas Schieffer said the murder had put a "stain on all

Masaaki Takahashi, 61, was found with stab wounds in his
neck near a US base in Yokosuka, near Tokyo, on 19 March.

Japanese police arrested a 22-year-old sailor, and the
US Navy has introduced new restrictions on its servicemen.
