Rebels clashes leave 23 dead - Ivory Coast
Bouake, Ivory Coast - Clashes between former Ivorian rebels in this northern Ivory Coast city have left at least 23 dead and wounded 37, all of them dead from gunshot wounds, a doctor with the former rebels told AFP on Saturday.

"Over a period of three days, my services have recorded at least 23 dead and at least 37 wounded," Karim Kouyate, who is the deputy director of the "New Forces" health office, as the former rebels are now called.

Earlier reports had spoken of at least 25 mostly civilian deaths over a period of 48 hours in and around a branch of the West African Central Bank (BCEAO) in the rebel stronghold of Bouake, when a stampede broke out in the bank.
