Westwood district closes schools due to bomb threat in Emerson, NJ

Letter threatens Emerson buildings, others nearby

WESTWOOD — Nearly 3,000 students who attend the Westwood Regional School District will not attend class Thursday due to a bomb threat received Wednesday by Emerson authorities, according to the district’s Web site.

The district’s decision to close its six schools – four K-4 schools, a 5-6 upper elementary school and a junior-senior high school – makes the district the 11th district to shut down schools due to the Wednesday threat.

The letter from Superintendent Geoffrey W. Zoeller, Jr. says police and K-9 dogs are conducting an ongoing search of the district’s buildings.

“However, I am not completely comfortable that these and other safeguards…can be achieved in time for our schools to open, even under a delayed opening,” the letter states. “For this reason, our schools will be closed {today}.”

(AXcess News) Newark, NJ - The Mayor of Emerson New Jersey received a bomb threat yesterday that forced officials to evacuate schools. A search has so far turned up nothing but authorities have closed 10 area schools with an enrollment of 12,000 students as the search continued Thursday.

Other districts closing Thursday are Oradell, River Edge, Closter, Demarest, Haworth, Harrington Park, Northvale, Norwood and Old Tappan, along with Northern Valley and River Dell regional high schools.

An Emerson Borough clerk had opened a note addressed to the Mayor which authorities say was computer-generated and said that multiple bombings were to be executed Thursday morning.

"All three schools will be blown out on Thursday, Sept. 20th at 11:30 a.m., with two other schools in near by towns," it read.

1. Back in the 70's before bush invaded Iraq
I worked for the state and we got at least two bomb threats a month. Sometimes more. And the schools got them also.

There are always that type of person out there. Some one who loves to scare people...hey, think bush used to call in bomb scares when he was a kid.
