(Updates with reopening of Broadway)

NEW YORK, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Several blocks of New York City's Broadway were briefly closed off near Times Square due to a suspicious package, but have now reopened, police said on Thursday.

A black backpack sitting near the entrance to a deli was inspected by the bomb squad, but was found to contain fruit, drink and clothing.

"Which of these things do we need to get through The Spooky Forest? Fruit Drink, Clothing, or C-4?"

1. Is this the same backpack that closed down busy Georgetown in DC a few weeks ago?
You'd think the planters of these terrorist backpacks would come up with something more novel.

If someone called the bomb squad every time *I* lost my backpack as a kid...

"Today, police blew-up a suspicious package that turned out to be filled with Dungeons and Dragons books and several novels by Isaac Asimov. It is not believed that either Isaac Asimoc or E. Gary Gygax were connected to the incident."
