SRINAGAR - Five soldiers and a civilian were wounded in a gun battle with militants in Indian Kashmir on Saturday, officials said, the latest in a series of militant attacks in the disputed region.

“The militants started firing and the encounter is still going on,” a paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) officer said.

The gun battle began when BSF troops tried to raid a house suspected to be a rebel hideout in Qamerwari, a residential area in Srinagar, summer capital of Jammu and Kasmir state, the officer told Reuters.
