US mulls ban on women in combat

Republicans in the US Congress are trying to pass legislation which would keep female soldiers out of combat.

Thoughts?

2. Considering how modern wars are fought where's the point?
In a "combat zone" - for instance flying over some unarmed third world countries and dropping bombs - women might be safer than in the real "combat zones". I wouldn't feel safe ANYWHRE in Iraq right now, for instance.

3. Yep in exchange I want all these
repukes to send TEHIR sons to teh service and to volunteer as a medic in the service.

For the record I am a former medic who served in teh line of fire (not the US) and these sissies make me sick... keep the women barefoot and pregnant... never mind recruiting is going to hell. But this tells me they don't want the two kids to face combat after the draft comes back...

4. It won't work
We can barely keep the military we have in the field now. Strip women from combat support would cause massive chaos, however, that does at times seem to be the neocons only goal.

Doing that also lowers the glass ceiling for female officers since having combat experience or at least experience in commanding combat units is a rather reasonable requirement for high rank in the military. The women who are in the military sure take a dim view of any attempt to restrict their roles.

I just hope they can all hold out till we rescue them from the "use them up" crowd that occupies the wh now.
