Group: 3 Oil Pipelines Bombed in Nigeria
Tuesday May 8, 4:45 am ET
By Katharine Houreld, Associated Press Writer

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) -- The main militant group in restive southern Nigeria
said Tuesday that it has bombed three major oil pipelines.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta said in an e-mail
address frequently used by the group that it had attacked three major
pipelines in Bayelsa state.

The claim was not immediately verifiable by the Nigerian authorities
or by Eni SpA, whose subsidiary Agip operates the Brass export terminal.
Previous announcements of attacks have proved true. The terminal
exports 200,000 barrels of crude per day.

However, a private security contractor, who is not authorized to speak
to the media, confirmed that a large oil slick was spreading down the
river from the Brass area. The state police chief said investigations
were ongoing.

A previous bombing by MEND in December of 2005 knocked out nearly
a quarter of production in Africa's largest oil exporter which has still
not been restored.

2. That's exactly what this is...
in dec 05, when production was knocked out by MEND, moron* used that as the reason as to why gas prices went up. but then in the article it states that it still hasn't been fully repaired, yet our gas prices went down.

doesn't make sense.

So now with this attack, the gas prices will once again shoot up, because they need the american public to get pissed about the high gas prices to divert their attention from the various investigations. especially the latest round that has rove in the bullseye.

if nothing comes of this and gas prices stay where they are, then it's the proofs in the pudding that they were completely bullshitting us last time.

I have been following the MEND actions on line and in print. They have a real justified beef with the gov't of Nigeria. The gov't is screwing the people there. and moron* and his room full of dopes are the enablers.

3. Good article from Feb '07 National Geographic here->
What the oil companies have done to Nigeria is beyond description. We rarely hear anything outside of the fairly predictable pipeline explosions, but the environmental damage and politics caused directly by Big Oil's presence are destroying the country. But hey, it's light sweet crude we're talking about here!

4. So we get the oil, and the Nigerian people get... what?
Any day now a Nigerian version of Hugo Chavez will step up to the plate and hit a home run off the ball they meant to hit him in the head with.

(Hah, hah, hear that George W. Bush, a baseball analogy!)

Of course there are those who would much prefer continued chaos, even with pipeline bombings and such, because they don't want to share the wealth.
