Speaking of worms
For a household of two humans, a compost bin that we ordered from a garden catalog has worked really well. No matter how many table scraps we throw in, it never reaches the top. The composition works that fast.

As long as we use generous amounts of straw or clippings over each new layers, there's no smell, even in the middle of summer.

Not only does the bin support worms, but we've got a thriving colony of beautiful striped salamanders under the bin.
