Electric Bill
On 2/23 I replaced 17 light bulbs with CFL's and it seems to have made an impact on this month's electric bill. Previous one was $45.17 and now it's $37.98, which means that I pay off the cost of the bulbs in a little of seven months. This is way cool.........

3. Seven months ?!?! That's an ETERNITY!

Don't you know in this Brave New America you are supposed to live hand-to-mouth, and when you do manage to scrape together a few extra dollars above and beyond your crippling loan payments, you're supposed to immediately run out and buy something made out of plastic?

What self respecting American would allow a whole SEVEN MONTHS to come between him and having a few Andrew Jacksons to rub together at the sales counter?

How is the ownership society supposed to own you if you're willing to go without to reduce your future costs? That's just unamerican! You should just work harder to earn more money to pay more for things. Get a third job, you bum!

:-)

7. As a matter of fact...
we just replaced 15 bulbs in our house with CFL's yesterday and I feel really good about it. Plan to do more eventually. I'm curious to see how much of a difference it makes. We replaced the ones that are used the most so we'll see.

I know that they are supposed to last for years too, although I have heard that if they are used in a frequent on/off manner, rather than being turned on and left on for a few hours or more, that they don't last as long as they are reported to. But that's still fine with me - even if that is true, they will probably last at least as long or longer than regular bulbs and they still have the environmental benefits.

:)
