Children to bear brunt of global warming: report (IPCC)
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200704/s1891582.htm

Children will increasingly bear the brunt of global warming, according to a new report out today.

Another report said the climate would continue to heat up in coming decades regardless of efforts to curb emissions of carbon gases.

A third report, coming as scientists on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change finalise their analysis of what climate change will do to the planet this century, said business was already feeling its effects.

The Save the Children charity said up to 175 million children would be affected every year over the next decade by climate-related disasters like droughts, floods and storms.

2. My step-children are 4 and 8 years old
It scares me to death to think what they will be facing when they are my age.

5. My cousin and I were discussing this today
His kids are in their very early 20s and he feared they'd never have social security , what the earth will be like , etc. I don't understand people who have kids today. They somehow have optimism when the earth's resources are dwindling like crazy or they just don't think about it.

3. All children under age 12 and those yet to be born are going to be paying the brunt of everything...
...including the huge financial burden left for them by this Bush Administration and their out of control spending!!! What kind of future are we leaving for our children??? If the planet isn't dying or providing enough food, nourishment, shelter, safety and drinkable water, they will be burdened with huge debt and a society far worse off than any of us have ever experienced.

4. Will this impact birth rates?
Particularly in First-World nations that usually suck up far more than their share of world resources, natural and otherwise? Will it come to a point where loving children and wanting the best for them means not having them to begin with, in terms of societal norms? I have to admit that my doubts that there will be a world in 100 years have had a strong impact on my decisions about procreating.

6. I hope it does.
I don't see how people cannot start thinking again about zero growth rates. Maybe if couples had just one kid....
