2. Honda Civic GX - Who Needs Gas?
Edited on Tue Feb-20-07 07:36 PM by Dover

How does six bucks for a full tank of gas grab you? Granted, that tank takes you 200 miles in urban driving, vs. the 350 or so you get from most cars, but it's still about a third of the cost of running a family sedan and about half as expensive as a hybrid. The Civic GX is powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), which is clean, plentiful (piped to millions of homes and businesses) and safe (would you heat your home or cook your food with gasoline?). A new device called the PHILL even lets you fuel at home. Imagine never visiting a gas station again! The GX's shorter range and limited trunk space (that's where the cylindrical CNG tank lives) are only minor drawbacks. The GX costs about the same as a Honda or Toyota hybrid, and the owner is eligivle for all sorts of tax breaks and incentives.

Did you know that the Civic GX is now on sale at select Honda dealers in California and New York?
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized the natural-gas Civic GX as the cleanest internal-combustion vehicle on Earth. Plus, the California Air Resources Board gave the GX an AT-PZEV emissions rating, which means it's still the "Cleanest on Earth." And right now, consumers in California and New York can buy the Civic GX to use as their everyday vehicle. With a modern, aerodynamic exterior, roomy cabin and ergonomic, supportive seats, the GX has everything you'd expect from a Civic. And because it uses compressed natural gas, the GX achieves remarkable fuel-cost savings, and helps decrease the world's dependence on oil. The Civic GX promises to lead the way to the advancement of fuel-cell vehicles, sooner than you might expect. Civic GX owners can purchase their own home-refueling appliance called Phill, which installs easily to a home gas line. With Phill, GX owners fill up when they come home, instead of having to go to a gas station.

3. I'll put my Volkswagon Jetta TDI
running pure biodiesel up against any of them...

40+ mpg and almost no net CO2 emissions.

Low particulates for a diesel.

4. Exactly right! Can't imagine why it didn't make the list. The VW Golf TDI as well.

The Volkswagen Golf TDI (Turbo Diesel) is one of the most fuel efficient cars sold in America and one of the most popular cars in Europe. I own a 2002 Golf TDI, and this page chronicles some of my experiences and impressions of this vehicle.

Most people in America have never thought about buying a diesel automobile due to bad perceptions about diesel engines and/or diesel fuel. I had the same preconceptions but starting researching fuel efficient vehicles 2 years before I bought this car. I had test driven scores of cars and the only one that put a smile on my face was this one. I loved it from the moment I got in the driver's seat. Besides being very peppy, it's a joy to drive. You wouldn't even know it's a diesel except when you go to the filling station. VW has done a lot to modernize their diesel engines and make them less polluting as well as easier than ever to live with. It's also a solid car, built of quality materials, as opposed to the cheap plastic you find in other cars of this price (and even more expensive ones!). I've been really happy with my Golf so far and think it is one of the most amazing cars on the planet! Below you can read more about my long term road experience with this car.
