British Prime Minister Tony Blair says he is working towards the launch of major international clean energy project to combat climate change. Mr Blair says he wants to involve other European countries, Japan and the United States in a project that he says could focus on carbon sequestration - a technique that Australia has invested heavily in.
The process does not reduce production of carbon dioxide, it just prevents it entering the atmosphere by pumping it underground.
Mr Blair also repeated his view that an international agreement on climate change is the single biggest thing that will make a difference on the issue.
But he has indicated the goals of the project have not yet been finalised. "We have an idea ... of a major project, which we will try and agree internationally, for one particular type of energy to be dealt with in a different way and it may well be that carbon capture and storage is where we go with it," he told a parliamentary committee.
