Merkel To "Press" Bush On Climate In January DC Meeting - AFP

Yeah, you let us know how that works out, Angela.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will press US President George W. Bush on cutting greenhouse emissions during talks in Washington next month after Berlin assumes the presidencies of the G8 and the EU.

"Of course we must and will talk with the Americans about the fact that they too should commit to reducing carbon dioxide (emissions)," Merkel said according to an advance copy of an interview with the political monthly Cicero released Wednesday.

"It is a tough problem to tackle."

During the meeting with Bush, Merkel said she planned to lay out her plans for the year-long presidency of the Group of Eight most industrialized nations -- Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States and Russia -- and her six-month stint at the helm of the European Union, which will count 27 members from January 1.

3. Well I'm sure they'll be some massaging going on. Merkel does her own
massaging - of data.

She is an advocate of the German "decision" to not "count" the output of Germany's new massive coal fired power plants because, well, they are new plants.

I never tire of reminding people that the German nuclear phase out is the primary reason those plants are being built at all. I understand that Merkel is not happy about the phase out, but she is more than willing to obscure the real consequences of it.
